without further ado the no simple road crew gives you Jennifer Hartswick!
... hi Jennifer how having me sincere thanks to see you too %HESITATION that my name's Mel and we have one more and then I'm apple thank you for giving us some of your time on this beautiful Saturday %HESITATION I it looks fun where you are it was fun and if you were here we'd be having so much more sons use virtual I meant you know like you here in our space yeah no I agree with you yeah we we we like to have a good time Jennifer you are our final interview in this room yeah wow okay what happens we are moving the studio to a bigger space today it's exciting to cool downstairs you I don't well I mean you do wanna suck a little bit because what you do right below you Jennifer thank you like Mel said for coming and hanging out yeah you have given us countless countless hours of happiness and joy and entertainment and thank goodness that makes me happy thank you one of the cool things we were just watching was what kept mowing he's going to be here on the thirtieth and watching that was just you know there's some stuff that you love to dance to then there's some stuff you like to groove to this was just such a good vibe in like relaxing and up beat but chill and cool and like that's one of the things I love about how you saying in your your vibe is just that the type of energy that you put out there so that's one thing I wanted to say thanks in your vibes are so good and what you bring to whatever environment you are you're in is just a plus man for real thank you thank you very much it even captured their nineteen year old son who was out on the patio at the he doesn't get into a lot of the stuff we're into and he was Saturday again on it he actually go multi generational yeah that that's the ultimate compliment well there is a parent or a kid like with all my parents that's what was happening with the beacon jams was that whole families were getting to watch these shows together words usually it's you know the people who are maybe in their forties going out leaving the kids at home but now they're at their home with their kids and even their parents are coming over to it looks like they're all potted up and yeah you're going to experience it together for the first time we just kept hearing that time and time again and thinking what it but a cool side effect to all this so I think we can when you can capture multiple generations yes well let's start there %HESITATION the beacon yeah sure first of all that I mean just the name okay it was extremely poignant and the it really hit a a really emotional spot in space and time and it was so badly needed and %HESITATION doing the live stream thing like it took it took me a minute honestly to at the beginning of quarantine and all that to be able to like kind of sync up with that it just seems so artificial and hard to connect with the vibe of the music and the musicians and I'm so use the live experience where you could feel everything and blah blah blah it was hard to connect with that stuff at first and and %HESITATION took me a little while like I said but the beacon jams were completely different it it came through like a laser beam and it really hit home and I'm just curious Jan from your perspective and point of view how how that felt N. if you kind of had the same experience with performing in that vein as well yeah I mean we were feeling just like everybody else was feeling at it was it's interesting because you know this is what we do with our entire life we don't have other jobs so this is like we we were forced to stay home and not do our job and that in and of itself was pretty scary %HESITATION and then for the people who need music to live to dance to to feel to to have their friends along the family along you know I think there is a real sometimes there can be a slight disconnect between musician and audience in terms of like sometimes it's we know people who live to go see live music but but also we think like how can that be these people have like lives in jobs that you know and then I eat there it was so abundantly clear that we were all feeling the same thing at that time %HESITATION and so for us to be that was when in October so we all got sent home from life in March and then all of those months feeling all the emotions of how we're all feeling and then to have somebody like Trey say you know this is this is unacceptable and there has to be something that we can do about it and everyone was trying to do something about it but not everybody can have the beacon donated to you for I think I can put my fellow view my couch but you know and so to be able to use those resources and have those connections and use it for the I mean greater goodies and even like on the same scope it was it it was so important for everybody and for us to be able to see each other play music together %HESITATION it was something that we had taken for granted our entire lives and now all of a sudden we were given this opportunity this gift where we would do anything and we we have to follow really strict rules and you know not see anybody and that was at a time where are you I you have to quarantine for fourteen days before you could even set foot outside of anywhere so I was in New York City for six weeks and I was at the hotel beacon above the beacon theatre for fourteen days without seeing anybody knowing that my friends were downstairs because I think for whatever so my friends I can't even go like not even with a negative test this is pre vaccine this is you know this is like no one was allowed to go to work yet and somehow we were being gifted this opportunity so %HESITATION that whole that whole energy of just being so excited to see everybody and then the funniest part is the fact that they flipped the stage around right so that everyone else could see the beacon %HESITATION Unifor begin theater behind us we're staring into packable the crew who we love you know I know you can see is like the twitch comments go you know like I'm after the song like now there's all these measurements we turn on the monitors it but is sensually %HESITATION what everybody got to view was just us at rehearsal is that there is no clapping there's no audience there's no as far as what it feels like it feels like all the homies are together and we're so happy and you get done with this big thing they're so excited to play this in so long it feels so good is amazing administrative being like a curtain of anyway but it's so it it it was such a different experience for so many reasons but it was so necessary for musicians and music lover alike Hey I think it I think it connected us in a much deeper way than we've ever been connected before and I'll I'll speak for myself I know I feel that way %HESITATION that I've gotten more I've had more conversations about what that meant to people than than just about any other topic %HESITATION and I think you know you're able to reach more people and it was shot so beautifully and it sounded so beautiful it wasn't like you know somebody's iPhone like there was a lot of time and money and effort that went into making sure that it was something really special and beautiful and as perfect as it could be in those circumstances %HESITATION so it's it's a pleasure to be a part of an organization who cares so much it's really really rare %HESITATION hands and they just continue to top themselves over and over again hi you know what thanks for shedding light on on what it was like on your behalf because again we're just seeing the end product we don't know any of that stuff we're not even thinking about you being in New York for six weeks and quarantining and not that's frigging it's sad but then you go on and do something like that you know because it can be the most you know I don't see scary and lonely time prior to doing the most amazing performance what I'd like duality you know that is yeah and we managed to get through all eight weeks so that one person getting sick well you Donald string section of band members nothing and so %HESITATION you know it's it was a real feat never but it was such a such a blessing to be able to do it that everybody to get incredibly seriously as it would have to be here I'll do it that's how that's what came through and and also I mean those of us that live music is our life like you said there's a lot of us that have built our entire lives around here live music thing and having it gone I mean not to put too fine a point on it was fucking terrifying yeah it was really scary man then we had to really figure out %HESITATION how we wanted to maneuver in this new space N. I remember thinking during that like I don't know if this can come back if this continues N. really like being concerned for the artists that I love like you and tray and like all you guys like what do they do you know if you get what how do we move forward and then for that to come and happen it was awesome but on top of it the music that came out of it it was so monumental that the those particular songs that you guys played some of the best versions of that stuff ever ever you can feel like you can feel what was happening it's not wasn't just like any other show where %HESITATION that was the best version of whatever that I've ever heard there was so much at stake and so much emotion and and everybody was so aware of you know also the the the things that were happening behind the scenes you know with the string section and those arrangements I mean there are people all over the country who were arranging those things on the spot and and trays very spontaneous and and would wake up sometimes the morning to show me like man I wish we had a full orchestral version of well John Hart and be like I need it by sound check at two thirty there are people that you just don't even see that are just working there and not right and that comedy and so I was like well if we won't be there for the beginning of sound check but it'll be there by the end you know and they're faxing stuff over on that so and then there's that and then there's all these vocal arrangements that Carmel dean was responsible for and and just their wrists there's so many moving parts and all of the people involved in that have been involved in trays like for quite some time so none of that frantic nis it comes as a surprise to anyone and we all understand how he works and this is very much like you know but when he has a great idea he's like what do we have to do to make it happen and it's never like in a couple weeks it's always like yes yeah and there's so many people scrambling and and creating and and dropping everything else that they're doing to make sure that this can be the very best that it can be %HESITATION and the result was stressed it complete and utter professionals doing exactly what they do mmhm %HESITATION and then also with the tinge of all the things happening in the world how grateful we are and not to get too heavy about it but for those of us that like I said this is our lifeline we were dressed in this like weird see N. one of the things that like I kept saying after the beacon and like what you guys did their N. lonely trip and all that stuff like you guys really energetically put a life boat out for us N. connected us back to something that I'm getting teary no I am needed so fucking bad and thought was lost and like I kept saying how can you have that much class never in my life I've been around the scene a long time like that's just like with such professionalism in class and style in the grace and without getting political and in a in a time when it was almost impossible to not do that right and make it made me it gave me the fuel to continue going the rest of the way like that was the water break in the marathon with like a splash the water man I keep going or yeah N. yeah to be a part of something like that Jennifer is just like I can't articulate the gratitude enough and I am so glad that you got the opportunity to do that because yeah it was definitely during the dark hour %HESITATION you know on on the background for for us because %HESITATION Aaron's really great at Lake organizing and putting things together but he's also really you know his mood can deplete easily and then bring everything down and it was one of the it was during one of those darker times that the beacon jams came out and it was it was literal sunshine yeah it was literal sunshine coming out into the lake permeating the cave that like how the hell the sunshine get into a cave but it did you know and one thing I wanted to ask you know what how is it working with someone like tray in the sense of like it sounds and it seems to me like what you were just describing like everything's elevated you have to play your best you have to act your best like everything shoots up lake is that something that you have it is a wellspring within you as well like you're always just kind of trying to modify and get higher or is that something that brought up or maybe both like I just wonder what it's like working with that kind of energy for yourself yeah I mean he jokes that he's a professional cheerleader for a living that's what how we love it and when you have so so many people involved in your organization and everyone it doesn't covert not withstanding everybody's going through whatever they're going through and he looks at it as an opportunity to just say yes and like yes yes yes yes yes yes and what what else like what else and that's how he plays music and that's how he speaks on the phone and that's you know it's it's it's it's exhausting at times when he crashes he crashes because he earned that crashed real hard %HESITATION but it's impossible to be around the energy and not want to be the same way match at it instead of like clinging onto it and bring it down you want to support that and uplift that and you want to support and uplift all all your all your mates all your band mates all your %HESITATION everybody and so it really does come from the top down whatever whatever the big wig is doing is like it says the tone for everybody else and %HESITATION so for for everybody involved it's it's it's a joyous place to work we worked really hard we love what we do works there's a lot that's expected of us %HESITATION and and there's a real sense of pride when we get to deliver that and so I think he's creek surrounded himself with people who are so lovely and so positive and %HESITATION not only understands everything on a musical level but just a human level I mean these are all people that you you would we would all take a bullet for each other a band of absolute family and %HESITATION we just we love each other I guess on a stupid laugh off and there for each other you know like if somebody's having a rough day or somebody fucks up or whatever you know it's like there's never it's just not a negative place to be and and in such a %HESITATION world of like you said you know the divide in politics and all that kind of stuff wars and all the things that are going on it's it's our looks like our little way of being able to uplift each other and whoever else needs it I just this may be a this is a silly question or not but it in regards to like the the way things are right now like the political divide in and the temperature of the water and and the the war that's going on in the we don't really usually talk about politics on the show we don't we don't we can just I have a question about it and I was thinking this is something I was thinking about the other day as all of this started overseas I you know there's like it's like looming specter cloud over there and and you can feel it like in your soul you can feel it going down and I was like is it okay to be like going to shows right now okay honestly question the inmates for myself like should we be celebrating at a time like this but for myself I came to the conclusion absolutely because that energy goes out into the world and that keeps you know yes balance out there in the forest or whatever but I'm curious how you see that yeah I mean I there's nothing more important than feeling love and showing love especially in such a time that you know only love can conquer hate hello %HESITATION but it's so it's just you know that loving energy is so much more powerful than its antithesis and it's so necessary we've all been through so much already and we already needed already before this started going down yes %HESITATION I will I worry for I have friends that are on tour in Europe they started a European tour two days ago and it's a month long tour and I just started having stuff get canceling your %HESITATION that's that was coming up in early may and so you know I like I worry for their safety but they I've I've already spoken with them and they said that the energy of the crowd is exactly what we're talking about like it's so necessary so badly and they're so grateful that they can go see music right now regardless of what happens in the ass you know something catastrophic happens and you were listening to music great yes I think all the time Jennifer I see that all the time if I'm jumping out of a plane skydiving and I died on my desk don't cry be happy I was doing something happy and fun like it same thing with music like yeah that's how I feel about I love what you said there's nothing more important right now than stealing and showing love because that is really what we need we can't take away the war we can't bring back the years of the pandemic we can't change our neighbor's mind but we can show love and we can give love and we can do it wherever we're at it doesn't it's not doesn't matter yep and I and I'm a firm believer that when you're in a group of people like when you're in a crowd when you're in an audience whether it's a jazz club or Madison Square Garden or whatever and you're all feeling that collectively together that's it that that's not one guy one guy one guy one guy that is like an exponential love experience that is like so credibly powerful energetic around you know I mean it's it's not you're not you're not having separate loving experiences at that point like you're with eighteen thousand people who are all just like it's beautiful it's necessary we have we have to do that thank you and whatever that thing is to you to you know if that for somebody listings like I don't really go you know not that someone will be with singing does like music but you know whatever makes them feel like that where this fly fishing with their buddies are like I don't you know whatever brings you that like that intense joy it's just it's so important and you know we also live in a world where we're only supposed to work I cannot see that kind of stuff luckily my job work and I have the experience that we're talking and that is for one day take that for granted %HESITATION can you get into that Jennifer like how're your origins of like how you started singing and playing and then maybe even eventually take how you gotten to tap for the everybody out there who doesn't know that %HESITATION %HESITATION I grew up in a super small town in Vermont on four hundred people wow more house than people want to %HESITATION and I grew up in a big old musical family everyone in my family all my aunts grandparents everybody uncles they were all brass players wow so I grew up my grandma was a trumpet player %HESITATION you know everyone would they be everyone except my mom my poor mom was the only person who played clarinet and you think he's a flu here's a clear and his saxophone again in the %HESITATION and so you know our whole sort of upbringing was around music classical music brass music brass quintets like Christmas was us getting route you know Plano Preston music and in the afternoon sight reading through these that one hour and I realize that now how special that is at the time you know it was very special home mom but looking back on it something so special and so I there was never a moment in my life where I ever thought I would do something else other than play music okay and they all ended up being teachers %HESITATION no one's really perform I cut some you know it's hot have the performer and teacher %HESITATION and and I also play a much different kind of music then they play but I grew up in that setting where it was expected that you practiced you know every day %HESITATION and my grandma lives easy come over twice a week can give me piano lessons and my mom taught music after school you know it was just a it was around so %HESITATION I love jazz music I love classical music I probably never turn on pop radio until I was like sixteen so there's like a huge piece %HESITATION that I had to learn later you know what hi sounds like why don't you know if you're on a sign like now because that's not we never MTV would have cable we didn't have you know like we live in the woods man I lived on three hundred acres of beautiful craft farmland it was in our house and my grandparents house and that's it %HESITATION and so full Jennifer is you have to get creative though because winter is like a fucking month long really cold nine feet of snow outside and so what do you do you practice or or god and in the tundra and %HESITATION so that's kind of you know how I grew up and then %HESITATION I was seventeen when I met tray %HESITATION and she was recording like his one of his first %HESITATION both solo records he was making his base rent one man's trash and he needed a trumpet player and he call this but he did great but %HESITATION and said Hey do you know what you're requiring a chunk there because weird on my card peace and there was this aha moment that we hadn't met yet and so I showed up it was right before mmhm six halfway through my senior year something of high school and I got out of a message on my parents machine like an actual machine they will say and that was nineteen ninety eight or seven and %HESITATION and I was trained as a different fish you know and I wasn't a fish fan because that wasn't the kind of music that I was into I was obviously aware of them that's like Vermont is rock right %HESITATION but he left this like the whole area is really telling apologetic message on my machine that was like hi this is Tracy from the band yeah she from Dave it was like there was such a %HESITATION an energy of like I'm so sorry to bother you and so anyway he he sent over the music I wish I still had it was like just chicken scratch %HESITATION and I showed up at the studio and it was you know he'd he tells a story on on stage sometimes but he basically like you're the only person who showed up knowing that music he's like you just kept banging it out time after time after time like perfectly while you waited for these forty year old man so get their shit together %HESITATION ends and sat with him first time that we had ever met or hang out together or whatever and then he called me again when they were recording farmhouse and then he formed the band in %HESITATION I was in college at the time having a rough just a rough go of it was not the right place for me at that time and I had called my parents I was like I this is for me I gotta figure out somewhere else something else to do but this place is not for me and so I had packed up all my stuff %HESITATION and I was ten minutes out of the driveway of my college and I called and talked to me about two years he's like Hey what are you doing his eyes could school ten minutes ago is it I want to be my band yes hi sure he's it how soon can you be my house says like I'm like four and a half hours away the call will still be here I walked in on them writing but until that day and that you know the golf like Mozambique and like big this is and then there was a band of space you have like the only have like ten minutes of like what the hell am I gonna do with my life now yeah and then build the universe I answers yeah wow are you a believer in that like are you Wu and all that could come with yes yeah I'm sending you right here right now you don't even know holding my serpentine because you know it especially with music it's a language that we everybody understands whether you play it or not and I think that that's not spoken about enough like we're all listening to a language that whether you're playing it or not you speak it because you can hear it and you can feeling and having that kind of energetic connection how can you not be wooed there's so many like of course I understand technical and you know reading and the mathematics and all that stuff about music but like in the end when you're playing it and someone's hearing it that is all energy and you're either feeling that energy and dig in on it or not but you're still a part of it some ground and that's just when somebody knows that other spot is the other part of it that energetic kind of woo kind of like yeah this is coming for me but not at the same time like it just I feel like it elevates that energetic %HESITATION connection it really does yeah yep I couldn't agree more I feel the exact same way and like you know there's there was a point in my life where I should bring it back but where I I made a really conscious %HESITATION several conscious thoughts before I want to walk out on stage every every night and %HESITATION one of them was I mean I I've been rake its been a part of my lessons about twenty four probably because I'm a rookie practitioner myself %HESITATION I got this is the right one for what will yeah %HESITATION actually there is a credible woman in April frost who lives in Danville Vermont who is among many other things a Ricky master an animal communicator %HESITATION and so through a dog we met her three dogs okay %HESITATION and she is she's five but she's just she's a spectacular woman she had like a holistic dog kennel as like a side hustle she had twenty five her own dogs who were all like you would never even know they were there you know she just like she opened the door and they were all just kind of politely such a calm one by one and they would go out and you know it's like the most peaceful places on the planet and %HESITATION the more I started to hang out with her the more I started to realize all the things that she offered and that was one of them %HESITATION %HESITATION Ricky workshop was one of them and I don't know what this is but I like you and I know this is all about and I was the only person in my family that time who was interested in anything like that and I went and I did it and I felt like all of my cells chefs hi though others really this is this this is and I I went home I think it was like living living at home for appearing because I remember going home to the dinner table at my mommy like I think you can speak of the current answer that question I got it like you she's like okay right I get that she she understood that and then %HESITATION so I started to I went back for like a level two situation and and then my mom started going and then my father went into my grandmother went rather well I think this whole thing where the everybody's having is really beautiful week the early two thousands %HESITATION and and it was all this because you know our dog was misbehaving and really needed some help so thank you April %HESITATION she's amazing she's amazing woman who like gifted us with it was her birthday we threw her a birthday party her sixtieth birthday and she gifted us with like a channeling session she's channel this one entity for decades and she's just that she's a she's a Gage was a game changer in my life %HESITATION really opened up a lot of doors for him and so I remember this one show where I would I would always sort of like ask that before I went out on stage that anybody who's willing to receive the reiki energy like that it would come through my trumpet and you know highs in greatest good for anybody who is open to it and I remember being as chills %HESITATION you need to come in Portland Oregon that's where we are is yet I love this and you know I see it in a in a purple light most people do %HESITATION but it shows up as like a like an indigo light for me and so I looked out and out of this one person who I couldn't see who it was there is like this beautiful arc of purple and then also another beautiful archetypal coming out the same person well and then as a like you know I'm playing a show this is not a healing session this is like I'm trying to not screw up the group here yeah and then I realized oh I know who that person is %HESITATION I'm friends with her I think she's pregnant hi Sarah afterwards and I was like how are you doing she's like great I was like no but how are you doing she's like what do you mean and she was six weeks pregnant she knew but nobody else now I was like no you got a whole other I saw it man hello so %HESITATION anyway and that child is now sixteen or something but %HESITATION anyway but you know cool cool blue stuff that happens at all times so I mean now even knowing that back to the beacon jams you're putting that out there what about those those air waves those whatever waves that were getting and will not look it's a whole crew it's all I get I get what we're not talking to them right now we're talking to one one special one all right forget about the crew for a minute we know trades dope we know everybody's dope on there but dot one okay one it's super inspiring and to that is probably the most unselfish most wonderful thing to offer in addition to the talent that you're bringing your you are doing a healing session you literally are and that to me is the hashtag goals because that's not only are you playing it some of the most gorgeous dope is music we've heard but now you're spelling that energy out into the crowd and that's what we kind of like all talk about like why no simple road exist it's like what is it about the live music experience what what is it what's that turn on moment for me it's always been I just love the healing arts that's my bag that's what I love music happens to be part of that it is a healing art so when you mash those two things like that conscious intention and and you actually have had training and now you're putting that out there that is the elevation that we've all been talking about and waiting for like what else do we do with this music when it kind of stirs us up and and then we leave and then what well we've just been hit with this freaking gorgeous energy that's what we that's what it's about %HESITATION bringing it home lake amplifying it league turning it out yeah it's just it's another part of serving yes you know like that's that's how I look I'm I'm in the service industry %HESITATION and it's another way that that I can help you know %HESITATION you talking about seeing the the energy %HESITATION I had always heard stories about the lake obviously and I mean if in an altered states of consciousness quite a bit in my life and I've seen things but but never really really like concrete where I'm like oh shit that that was a thing N. M. not until recently within the past year that I have an experience where I like physically saw someone pull energy out of someone else and like I had to take it on myself and make it go back to the earth lake yeah but seeing that is it's almost dreamlike in a way because he your your rational mind is going there's no way that this is the thing that I'm actually seeing but then at the same time your rational mind is like you're awake and you're and you're not alter and yeah and this is happening and it's it's a thing did it take time for you to get comfortable with transmitting and also seeing that seeing it %HESITATION came quickly whether I wanted to or not that wasn't something that I you know I'm in that first race you tune meant like I saw she said you know there whatever you this is after the fact to us it wasn't something they got put in my head she said very often whenever you experience in that team is will follow you will be the symbol from now on that like this is flowing or this is happening %HESITATION and so I had I I was that what was happening in two thousand for whatever it was you know I had this moment of of this gorgeous like sort of trapezoidal you know purple thing it was an object that was just emitting this late the of the same color and that thing has followed me around since that moment and so and sometimes it comes in literal waves like I'll close my eyes and I see it as an ocean wave coming from right to left but it's not color and it's it's so interesting that because I know what it is and I know how beautiful it is it's such a sense of comfort more like I'll I'll be you know my mom still to this day will be like what time is your flight and then I know she's an American she wants anything and I'll be on the plane I would close my eyes drifting off and I see it unlike thanks mom it's such a it's such a feeling of comfort and it's sort of like just like a little like Hey what's up to the universe you know like yeah I see you off thank you so much I needed that you know %HESITATION and so I'm I tend to be a very visual person anyway my mom is not my mom is like she feels she's tactile so she feels that she feels the people there I see them %HESITATION yet will both have the same will both have the same experience man it's just that we are we can get I am so excited about you talking and I'm like you're only so okay this just happened so so %HESITATION somebody in my family got covered really really really bad like on death's door situation and my mom called me and she's like Hey we're gonna do like a remote review session with everybody in the family and whatever and I kind of put everybody in the in the %HESITATION I need a list of folks who could really use that and call probably ten practitioners and said you know Saturday at seven we're gonna sit down and we're gonna you know if you can join us great and I was in Hawaii %HESITATION I chose and why this is just in January and so you know my husband's over there I was like I'll be back in thirty minutes is that okay well you know reading just a minute and so anyway I'm having this experience whatever everybody sort of in the circle and I'm aware of like who's on that list and there's some people that I don't know and I bring them in for like however they want to appear that's an interesting thing is when you're sending Ricky to someone who you don't know and you can't picture physically picture %HESITATION and then always someone at someone's in there some sort of energy is in there %HESITATION that I would assume matches them because I don't I don't recognize that energy anyway and so I was I was in that space for probably ten minutes and I heard my late aunt's voice who is she was real graph and I heard her even in that state go the fuck am I chopped liver I didn't invite her to calm like be part of the giving you don't ever yeah and I started laughing and I was like I'm so sorry I didn't invite you and so I invite around anyway a couple hours later I call my mom I was like man the funniest thing happen to me and fucking shit she showed up in hers to shoot yell shut up and mine was like how do you get sorry my god how come okay not it we always invite the ancestors you know it really is but if you look past and it was just like we had forgotten and she made it known that she was gonna shit anyway stuff like that have about well only does so yes I'm pretty well %HESITATION can check here on my on my I don't know okay so on that note I all it should I love do already but think you may yeah this is not anything I've ever shared with anybody either song this is fun that make you know will this if I can share with people who don't get it yeah no you're right you know don't cast your pearls before swine but then there's also those other people who don't even know about it really they just need to be introduced to it that's it you know and I if I feel that a lot I feel like I think one of the greatest things about what we do here is that you know we have the two guys over here that are guys and then that we have me over here but it it does create quite the balance because yes it's fun to know like stats and technical stuff in all people's names and all that but I really just love to get to the heart of people and I don't care what instrument you play here how you can hold your nose or whatever I want to know who's this person that's like bring in it I want to know where where their backgrounds from an because of all of our different interests we get such a great %HESITATION I feel synopsis of who this person really is let's bring in this amazing music and and energy to us and and other part of it too is like meeting you know when I come see you play it's it's a different game right a hundred routine even harder and I we realized that we realized that early on like when we are talking these people that we love and admire so much and then establishing a connection with them then going to see them play I was like oh shit we can do that with the show for the people that listen we can elevate their experience too and that that was like this huge thing and like it like I was saying on that note %HESITATION all the music stuff aside all the tabs stuff in how are you doing are you doing okay like we've been through a lot of shit man are you are you hanging in there I'm hanging in there I feel in at least in my existence which I don't like to be that selfish about it but in my very small little bubble my counters full so grateful %HESITATION you know the first three months of lockdown were scary for obvious reasons but also show necessary for me I just like I'm gone three hundred days a year why I I I live in a house that I don't spend time in you know I live in a city that I don't know %HESITATION I know every other city better than the city that I live in %HESITATION and so because we were forced to step down it really like there was a whole re evaluation period of like actually but what do I want because I have the time to think about it and so those three months were a real blessing %HESITATION I didn't reach out to anybody I just sort of went into hermit mode and and didn't do anything I didn't listen to music and write music I don't practice I did nothing and it was so important and necessary %HESITATION and then once I sort of like came out of that I started to you know implement some things like things I was gonna do anymore things that like so I have a hair in my mouth okay great that was going to go on for like twenty more minutes I'm pulling it or live he's grabbing our whole time %HESITATION you know it was this sort of beautiful time where we all got to say okay if money was no object what would we say yes and what would we say no to because money what there was no money yeah no one was paying for that no one is paying print knows him another and so it became abundantly clear what I wanted to be a part of and what I just thought like work we've we've grown we've currently got ground that %HESITATION so that was a nice little gift %HESITATION and then you know I just I made some some health promises to myself that's been amazing %HESITATION and really like hold on to it feel really proud of myself for that kind of yeah it's like a it's a real it has been %HESITATION it's been a real just in all the all the nonsense there's been a lot of amazing things and a lot of growth that's happened %HESITATION and I'm thrilled that I got to make like the record of my life that's finished in coming out at the end of the year yeah you know all kinds of things %HESITATION my husband our home together for the first time ever because he also travels for a living so we spent a year and a half living in the same house together we still really like each other which is right your record of one ten years ago others here get down %HESITATION so you know there's just like I told I'm not like it dwell on the negative I think it's important it sucks it sucks to do that and I know that it's it's I'm very lucky to have the outlook that I do and also a roof over my head you know I mean there's there's people who are not faring so well and I want to be very careful and can conscious of what other people are going through %HESITATION but in in my life I am extremely blessed and and excited for the future good yeah cat she will you you made a post I read it to them before we got on our the post you made the cut at the beginning of the quarantine thing about how we in the whole world is not realize this that beauty power money means nothing and everything and that was like a wake up call and then like at the end of that post where it's like you know but but the earth is spoken mother nature and everything your unnecessary you are we come back from this realize we are not the master we got the gas I love that poem it kind of sums it up and that was you know at the beginning of this and now here we are coming back yeah and I think everybody like us getting you getting to return to stage and everything live music US one of the first things we gotta go to was to go see fish at the gorge up here which I mean you talk about a comeback from nothing to something share yeah I know it was just it was just amazing and I and you can feel it everybody has changed for the better when we congregate now the love is so strong yeah and and it's just growing now yeah and I can't wait that that's one thing I want active we're going to head in that direction you got a lot of interesting stuff coming up like going to Iceland to do that to do the heartless thing you know %HESITATION freeze and join you know Thielen friends yet that's all coming up yeah %HESITATION I there's all kinds of stuff %HESITATION there's all kinds of really fun stuff I still recall never been there before %HESITATION I'll be over there with with entrees and and %HESITATION talk is over there and started showing %HESITATION and then and then there's always late night spots and Bayliss was gonna do any late nights he's like I don't I'm not doing any R. all right and then using all of my family wanted you dumb touristy stuff like we never get to do this you know whatever and I said okay he's like you know but like if you get in a in like a pickle and like you know you need to know that the Catholic guilt is so real hello okay anyway so he's again if we could if we could do a heartless that then I would do it I was like okay great well you have a gig Saturday night and really he's like is he blames it on his wife he's like it's only because my wife loves you that just seems even like it's yeah that's fine the %HESITATION Thielen friends too that that looks like a pretty stellar line up of human beings on that stage yeah and good songs we just got this unless yesterday %HESITATION yeah it'll be fun yeah it feels it feels really good to like I don't know like you said the my heart my Cup is full right now N. yeah and I think going back into everything with a new perspective is really important and it's easy to let it slip I think in some ways to like the lessons that we've learned to just get busy and start moving again without any intention that it deserves in I'm I think talking to people like you at least for me as a nice reminder of like a man you know good your your calendars full Anna that's sweet and everything but remember why you're doing this and and what it's for and don't get you don't get a fucking twisted it yeah yeah mmhm also you know I just went out there to like when you are blessed you gotta accept that and like kill it you know what I'm saying like because if we do one of course you want to be conscious in an careful and not to lake offender heard anybody else's life replied or where they're at but to not fully accept some a blessing that you either earned or gotten through luck or whatever that's a huge slap in the face because right now you're rejecting something that somebody else doesn't even have so right all with all your might it's gotta be accepted you know with everything yeah that's that's that's also a place where I struggle because like the givers don't but have a hard time accepting yes and so I remember is very simple exchange but I it was a powerful lesson I want to thank whoever did this for me but I was at a little show of my own I was at the merch table somebody bought vinyl and it's twenty five Bucks and they hit a new fifty and they wouldn't take change for and I made a hole I was like change and the person behind him put their hand over my wrist and said don't you block his blessing %HESITATION %HESITATION %HESITATION is that this man is trying to bless you don't you block his blessing wow and I was like right how may making him feel my being like we're not you know what I mean like he wanted to do that it was a good was a good lesson lesson while not great got to accept that that's a great note to end on do not block your blessings with Jennifer Jennifer I just when I reached out to you I knew I don't always feel like this but I knew we were gonna have fun when we talk and when we started emailing back and forth as it was gonna be some push button and them yeah I'm just really really happy and and grateful that you did this with us because a you're you're beautiful needs it would need to hear you so much this conversation I'm telling you they need to hear it yeah well thank you thank you for the invite your all lovely let's hang out in the same room together with this job yeah let wherever whenever you're back in Portland you consider you have a place to come always yeah thank you Jennifer you enjoy the rest of week and then send in our love much thanks for sharing time general thanks guys sending you that Ricky energy girl yes as yeah %HESITATION yes home is yes hello good sold mine it comes through in our music all the energy that she carries Marilyn and I had to see that carrying over into her life and how she came to that that we got we got a good background there and Jennifer and of everything let's let's say this that couldn't have been the more perfect last interview in this %HESITATION she filled it with her reiki energy thank you she was part of something that really help to get the black cloud in the funk out of our lives during a really hard time that should say anything and she's wrapped up something such that we've had such beautiful times in and such amazing conversations and and no simple road is changed and grown so much in this place and what a amazing person to usher us out and into something fresh and new to re that that play that you talk about the pinnacle of blight and I mean power in the best with the power onboard power yes I I wrote it in her in her thing powerful energy this I mean you can see is so humble and open about it dori of meeting Terry her rate experience repair and that just everything was white I I would love the goal when city decided to do reiki and I mean it I don't know if I expressed it enough but like that was a big deal to me because reiki is incredible and your daughter's follow and my daughter's following footsteps if my family did like Simon decides in you you guys like what the amount of power that would come through is insane it already comes through but it would be even well the focus yes I'm just saying is there any maintainer so there's like dirt and Mel just walked by with like a bunch of seeds of the eminently planted Atlantic now yep mmhm we'll see what happens H. it seems to grow very well around here honestly identified thank you like just for me and I know of course the whole NSR crew but thank you for sharing and talking about Iraqi thanks for sharing and talking about your just your life in being an open book and I am so appreciative and grateful yeah and you know it I guess I didn't really think about this much when we were discussing moving the studio yesterday but like this is the end of something yes I was just the I just know I died this is a I didn't really think about that I didn't M. is there removing the studio big deal but like this is the end of something and the physical space is getting larger and it's a representation of what's happening with with the thing the show we are all created together we've got answers several moves yeah we went from tiny little torch the porridge N. then the dining room table but it was too cold to be on the port and then from the dining room table to in here and then from in here too now a bigger space he said no simple road is taking up a bigger space N. I. D. I'm really %HESITATION grateful to everybody that listens to the show for affording us the opportunity to have the conversations that were having it it's not because of us it's because of you guys and %HESITATION once because of these incredible musicians that share their lives with us yeah and what it's like we hear all of them say they they wouldn't be up on stage with without the fan out an audience yeah and I just assume I want you guys out there to know that I am aware that it is because of you that we get to do this and %HESITATION being a good steward of the blessings that we've been given the gift of being able to do no simple road and have it grow and be a thing and in be something that you want to sit down and listen to every week that means I I say it a lot but I hope that the wait of the words and with how I feel when I say it comes through that like really does mean the world it's it's our life you guys get really really it this is our life we're doing right here is there's no like when we stop doing this it it doesn't stop when the Mike shut off it we talk about what what our calendars are filled with the trips that we take the places that we go the friends that we surround ourselves all come from this and %HESITATION it's it's a big deal so just thanks to everybody and Hey don't stop listening because we're going to teleport into the future you ready one to that is a laugh that I can listen to all day long that is wonderful with him being we love laughter especially if specially Mel you heard her in the she she oh my gosh her her laughter brought us all up a notch we had so much fun doing that again Jan thank you so much for hanging out with us it felt like we were hanging with an old friend and %HESITATION it's a huge honor for the three of us to sit down with you man it's a big deal yeah it is you have done some amazing things and you have blessed us over and over and over again and I hope that our conversation was a little bit of giving back to you you left lighten your day and yeah you know everybody out there I'm sure is feeling the love right now too so it changed the whole vibe of the day after that conversation the it was just so charged the rally day I I love to lay we mentioned that it was it was the last interview and what was the studio upstairs which is now my bedroom which dumpster on Iraq finally faded to finish painting pulling it all together but what better Blasien of an interview like that to leave that left an energy in there that I moved into all that so thank you Jennifer yeah that was the right that that always hang that reiki energy yeah that that was the last interview up there before I took it over as well as my abode there %HESITATION so yes but what is Thursday morning right now serves four AM on the west coast seven A. E. N. he has like a fabulous lake Cape wind cave and it's incredible like this thing when I saw it I fell in love I remember and that's what I did it was like oh my god and then talking to them yeah the they're they're magical they were a magical trippy they put like some energy into all these little Dick had characters like so you were attracted to the certain late and it was hello to these are the it's like that I was gonna say like a puppets on on like an elastic string like the little yelling at the top like you don't want to go yo or something and you just kind of bouncing around it's not like a marionette it's on one string but they're kind of flaw in the lady oranges tall no no jangly easily just like but like that about a foot tall really hall yeah we are %HESITATION my manolos probably like six inches okay ma'am J. oversee at tango is pretty I was in the mall all right what has all that apple that's all I'm looking for but because of where we're going to what it means to all of us affected is is when ripple again because just the memory of when we're there in two thousand nineteen and we're all in different places likely we were out kind of fanned out we weren't doing any more interviews I remember me a writer were up in the bleachers and then you guys were down off on the side do in something as soon as ripple came on we all I seen you guys cover you're looking at I we're looking down at you we all came around and be a writer like global ham hock and down we're all mad up and just stood there and bracing each other and then kept her arms around each other listen in a ripple would just tears stream man of happiness and you know no syllable we yeah I look forward to when that that yes hi where and what about you what what Aaron will there and let's do this right okay so Babe if I were to ask you what particular item you be wanting to fine on that shakedown what would the answer be okay I have this it's a two part answer I I got a patch last time we went to school in role yeah back patch for my camouflage jacket yep and it's a man dollar bowl rainbow patch N. it made that jacket one of my favorite pieces of clothing that I own and I am on the hunt for another back patch okay here you go but add but the conversation that we had for and I wish I could remember his name it's the do that owns and runs trippers hollow hello yeah a no deal never in a million years would you remember his name I remember because we both follow on Instagram today okay you're right anyway you're right the go on Instagram and follow at trippers hollow and you'll see what I'm talking about this is like some serious energetic man dollar Grateful Dead %HESITATION puzzle badass designs each design is infused with like %HESITATION it's so much intention N. dot N. it's it's like a the sigil in in the sigil sings the song you know N. one ever I know every time you look at like the one you got the you see something different and every tight so intricate and so much going on to help women yeah you got B. bought one thank you bye when they're ordered when we got back or something yeah you have one well far out anyway I want to I want to get something from him this year there again yeah that conversation with him is one of my favorite conversations that we've ever had at a festival yeah I remember that you guys headed out your hand exactly where we went over there yeah you sat there you interviewed him and then we continue to hang out with them over the next couple of days gone by and hanging out yes shootin the breeze I hope he's gonna be there again and you know that's that's part of the thing like that we do when we go to festivals and stuff is like trying to give you is the listener if you weren't able to be there like a feeling of what it felt like to go hang out like well that's part of what you do when you go to a festival as you walk around and talk with the vendors and bullshit with your friends and listen to music and have a good time to go out in the shake down and you know all the weird stuff that goes on it shows and festivals and like if you weren't able to be there we'll go and record as much of it is possible for you and put it together in such a way that when you listen to you kind of feel like you've been there so you can go back and listen to the old scholar I think it's a two part episode that we did for the sole resident twenty nineteen I think I'm gonna do that before we leave like around and there are some lane there's some really hilarious shit that on a high and also like there's one moment that stands out in my mind from that show as far as like trippy moments of like weird high strangeness and weirdness and it was the Saturday night when big Steve was doing story time and I was standing there with John Levario from the Higgs and we were ripping on big Steve and it was so funny the story that he was telling was so fucking hilarious and it was like he was telling one story but it was actually like seven stories at the same time on different levels and I don't still to this day I don't know how he does that but he does that and everybody around was just like looking at each other like what the hell is going on right now and cracking up and it was so much fun and I caught it I had the presence of mind turns a recorder on terror course I caught a lot of it and them that's in that recording from that show too so that but as far as Grateful Dead song I didn't ask that question but that's the way yeah that that that too was it hit his vendor thing took awhile we do have a podcast you know you can disable those will they be able to hear you correctly %HESITATION but you guys he was hurry always like one thing and then you're like okay mines a three parter tags and I want to tell you one thing it's hard it's hard to narrow it down the one thing I want back patch what song okay so the back patch and what you know what's on I'm well there's two not the whole suite I wanna see you really super trippy darkstar okay yeah good trip starting it's all over now baby blue and a ripple I'm skating darkstar really really super trippy darkstar that's my that's taken over the weekend I want to really fucking hell or Saint Stephen too because that gets everybody wound up where we start and then circle isn't just limited like I can whining %HESITATION Mel the beginning of that song yeah I'm I've never seen that where everybody didn't dislike for Spain and and dancing from the budget it's a couple notes it's a musk of like well now it's like V. N. pot smoke D. M. T. B. O. an unwashed human at the excitement the dancing stars all that up there from Charlie Brown start spin in a circle on its way it's all out of a funk and it's the mentality add all the killer we do it to get so fucking heavy it's like almost medicinal small all the weeds away fifteen cited about all of it I'm and then I smell of the beach the oceans have they had a loop in twenty nineteen when you first walked into the venue like you went through whatever the I'm doing air quotes for security you went through security and then there was like food trucks and then you turned right and you went into the venue but where the food trucks were there was a Mister softy trucks yes oh god yeah I remember that I saw that I literally got lake I was ten years old or something like what I'm doing for you but I want to hold it there was a line the entire time I remember that yeah take a Kerr we it was like somebody would hold place for a while and smoke them all right yeah I need seventeen chocolate co fourteen oh my god that was online I was so good they had a good day good food vendors everything I had a grilled cheese with like %HESITATION brisket it was %HESITATION PMR and the the this festival was like a a huge deal for the three of us yes it was I mean don't get me wrong still this festival is a huge deal for the three going to that one in twenty nineteen was a huge deal for us and then like I remember when the first one happened and ice I was watching I was sitting on the porch watching O. T. O. perform from there and and they had like the wall of sound behind them and I remember thinking to myself that would be so cool if we could podcast from there like I wonder if we could make that happen and just like the the genesis of the idea of doing it and I remember the moment N. I remember reaching out to them through the website there's like a contact website and the response I got back was from Dennis McNally and that's how I met Dennis and I shit my pants I remember when you got that I remember that I freaked out and I remember the email was like what we'd love to talk to you let's set up a call and I was so nervous I was at work and I had to like go we have like a at my job will occur it's called the map room and nobody's in there and so I had the likes to sneak into the map room so that I can have privacy and not be out were everybody works and I was shaking at the time I was calling him like I was so nervous and trying to be so professional and like I got on the phone with Dennis and he was like this fucking computer of mine this apple Avalon and I was like I can help you with your apple computer used to work there N. from that moment meant it and it's just a trip to think back on all that stuff in and I remember that story I was like he thank I don't know every time you do something amazing I'm sorry if I down play it because I really do think it's incredible but yeah I feel like you deserve it so that's why I'm like it's not that big a deal thanks Babe like it like you work for it of course you're gonna get it thank you I know that's not true there's a lot of things over for the we haven't got them well I mean we're still alive and kicking I mean that's true and in part podcast wise like she's saying yeah you put a lot into this when there is evil yes see you lately you start getting teary eyed just thinking about you put a lot into this and that eight eight you were little geeks about it like Mel said she didn't see like that that we get giddy kinda with certain people and stuff because it's like I never R. eighteen nineteen year old cells like we talk about never pictured as being any more than somebody out in the crowd which I mean that's enough to get to have Dennis McNally in our corner and looking forward to seeing us and I'll never forget when we interviewed him and his wife who we've had on the show to Susan Susanna what Susannah she was so excited for us to talk to him I was in the end he was the he he he was like ten assignment what like add to your what do I want to talk to me for kind of a kid that's I'd love about you Dennis I love that did it he's like II seems kind of cranky but he's not he's so loving and so much energy and takes care so much and so many people ages I remember interviewing them it was so sweet because he immediately just got into some stories about such a good time with them you know one of the single issue that tripped me out about meeting him and others that are are or were involved in the Grateful Dead organization self as the as a kid like nineteen twenty twenty one whatever when I was on tour and after in my mind the people that all work for Grateful Dead and Grateful Dead productions were you know hippies bunch of dead heads and not that it's not but it's not what you think is not what you think like it's not what you thought no okay yeah that's not what I thought it was like not some dude named moon beam with like he's got his crystal next to the phone you know what I mean it's just that's not these are like legit professional human beings that this is their career and they know their shit out and they also happen to be students on the bus twenty three on the whole crew that that crew the put it built the stage as opposed to also those are my construction workers like the shirts they always wear that you know first ones in last ones out there Boston mass and hi do in that start out highs kites to yeah so it's just a a trip to think back I I mean I know that the first episode of the show was like all about my first experience at a Grateful Dead concert like you know over the five years we've %HESITATION the show has grown and become more than a Grateful Dead podcast you know the compass is just music now the jam scene and beyond but what the Grateful Dead represents for me and like so many other people it's so deep it's it's roots it's it's the S. white and think about think about what that means like you know if you say that's my roof right think about the tree that's in your front yard and you can see all the branches that are on the tree and you can see its leaves and you can you know see the parts that are exposed but the roots are underground they're buried and those are the things that are actually keeping that thing alive that's one of the new tree that's where the nutrients you come in that's where the water gets in that's how it communicates with all the other trees is through the roof so that's the part that's protected by mother nature the most yet and so saying that something is your roots is a big deal N. that did not know if he is absolutely isn't so that's what I was just gonna say that Grateful Dead family it is my roots and it taught me it taught me so much it I was such a dumb shit like as a kid I was such a dumbass with psychedelics I I didn't have any %HESITATION anybody older to help me and I was just balls out N. I still am a lot of ways but like I need never have any have anybody to like take me under their wing and a kid you know take it easy or none of that and so I fucked myself up pretty good before I ever got into the debt and I was a little broken a lot broke in I had a lot to like hang up some misconceptions in Hana fears and traumas and shit that happened to me that I didn't even have language to be able to say what I just said that do you get what I mean like I it was a mess that's all it was and when after I went to my first show I started getting put back together by the music and in the lyrics and like the community of it N. the whole scene it put me back together N. it helped me to like become human again N. and find my place because I was fucking lost at sea it nurtured you yeah I am I was really messed up and %HESITATION I'm really grateful for it man and the yeah I'm really fucking grateful for it it's it's a big deal it's a great day it's yeah it's the roots man N. N. so being able to go to a festival like this and celebrate that for four days with you guys N. the no simple road family and the Grateful Dead family which is all the same thing anyway it's really special number have a lot of our organ family there this time too which is a whole price in the boy yeah I was just sitting with his hands on yeah right Brady Brady and chanting and be there and since it's gonna be cool it's I hope we see ash and Rafael will communicate have passed out does another one of might that things that's going to bring up that was so far we're out in the parking lot that day %HESITATION when we when we interviewed them it would let that do that and get you in the friendship and and everybody knows my fun time with Ralph that one night it was such a fun it well I mean through the running in the gorge to antelope when fish was playing that like that was the equivalent but it was inventor at lake just that running so fast through the crowd feeling so I felt like a bird in the crowd somehow the disco sting I get it it was one of my death have been either in the crowd the other thing so that this is my fourth park my subpart how about when we get to see Melvin after having interviewed him I got to well Melvin and now I see him up there doing his knowing hitting on that organ and %HESITATION %HESITATION still right now it's just like holding omega male movie les only like one of the ladies in church doors in over in the in the stands like with the fan going home cool dude yeah yeah it's gonna go down in a broken heart Austin major way are gonna go down I just can't I think bike I mean no nobody nobody has any idea what their life would be like if it wasn't the way it is now you know what I mean there's no way I don't know but like god I can't even imagine if I hadn't found the I can even imagine what would happen to me N. %HESITATION I would be now but they were both like Ste Duffy bank executives that don't listen to me I doubt it %HESITATION because music was a huge deal for us to know I know of just eighty two comes here still does a spell it like yeah you just said bill what does look like what it would be a whole different way all this AJ I don't listen to track okay apple if you could have your your %HESITATION alter life what would it be my alter life %HESITATION what do I get to keep this one too no I just think that okay you you're yourself right now but like if if it wasn't you and you made all your dumb choices what would it be what would your life be well %HESITATION if away %HESITATION like if if I may dump continue to make their choice is where what I I'd be dead right yeah it looks like %HESITATION it's easy like if I were to I Wally I don't know like the music that is like being a kid I always wanted to work in a zoo or be a veterinarian that's really hi yeah well my god dude thirty three and I love your best friend I never knew didn't know that I know well I guess we met and I shared with Matt right our teens I was all I all about like all kids like in the dinosaurs and I was totally in the zoology thing and and I haven't been great at reading in cycle plate that that we have my mom and I shame you're who you are it was like it was like the encyclopedia of the animal kingdom yeah a one time and you got like a new one every month the collection and right and I all got it yeah I love that place where we were going to pump Blanco a lot of our neighbors had horses and stuff even though I was called brown I am very afraid of horses this day after seeing our neighbor get kicked in the chest and go to the hospital and almost died he was like he was like six I was like oh shit yeah it was it was their horns and it was one those thing like he does happen to walk behind if you don't want to take them in the chest and like almost caved his chest and but but growing up around animal there is a lot of animals in that neighborhood and stuff a lot of ranchers and lived in there always yeah all I just always always loved animals and wanted to be a veterinarian or even a like bad junior high age became a %HESITATION like a marine biologist I wanted I wanted to work like on a boat so learn from these alliances even sass sass %HESITATION more from this wall just to marine biologists to stoner yeah I know now here if if you like I like my enough to worry about your bill likely care or not and I don't have to worry I would like it be cool to work at the zoo I always thought that be cool to get a job is right around may tell it needs like a ball into their always take your volunteers and stuff and one of my friend's husband used to work at the zoo what what are you what a great thing being around animals because I've worked retail again now again for awhile that means you I mean I love humanity but working with people in retail can get really tired it can it's definitely writes that nerve now yeah what do you what do you melt in your lan I. holds our life of mine I don't know I think I'd probably be like a nomad and I just travel and not have a spot you wanted to be when you're a kid I just wanted to do something different like that I didn't know about so I just wanted to make choices that I A. like a world traveler yeah exactly like just on the nose the travel blogger yeah I guess I would blog yeah I probably better photos than to but yeah I would like to would have liked to do that because it does it well I kind of make sense like a lake with a collage in an area like a collage life yes like taking bits and pieces then you move on to the next thing and take bits of cultures and just because I love that I do love cultures I love religion I love people I like interaction I like some new so it just kind of would it seems like it would like satisfy a lot of different things like trying new things and being in a new place and like trying to communicate the language of the people in it like the short times in you just touch also like I guess because it's such a big sense for me to like there's a lot that you can learn from touch like you know when you touch somebody's shoulder like %HESITATION you know like it makes it makes them feel better or like a make lets you know that they're friendly or something or %HESITATION so yeah I just feel like that kind of whirlwind lifestyle would be cool all right all right Mister conductor what what what would you been carpets you know traveling dictionary you know push the trash can around with the broom janitor no I'm when I was a kid I really really wanted to be a fighter pilot okay really bad in the airforce so bad that I made my dad sent me to military school I get that then I am the only person I know that sent themselves to military as and that's not that I didn't know until later in our friendship to when you show when I I was like bull shit need busted out some pictures of you on your uniform honoring very cute and then you continue to want to be in the Coast Guard for a long time and I'll I'll call you really really wanted to learn how to fly I for some reason like arm white it's like Superman flight an airplane flight in in whatever hang glider whatever in the lining always was fascinating to me I remember in Vegas they open this thing called fly away %HESITATION yeah one of those wind tunnel things in I had to go there thank you you can fly inside of a date like without it I'm going to that and it sucked I hurt myself and slammed into the wall but yes fighter pilot and I couldn't do it as my eyes are and when I discovered drugs in yeah the star fly in a different way I am an internal thing I know I've asked you this before rest got asked on the parts of the lake we we've talked about your your route bombs I the family with like the circus performer you never eat I think the answer is no you never had any desire to be in that kind of a performer and that one it's a magician you're gonna be a magician it was making it up %HESITATION like what do you do a hundred beats a slight decrease your card no you were into magic as a little kid though yeah he's he's yes Sir real magic sets and you're awesome at making cocaine disappeared when I was going okay and is that the %HESITATION I still don't know what I did with it %HESITATION %HESITATION I just I generally don't know truth no dude I never ever wanted to be in the circus it was such a turn off to me because okay but if you had to be somebody yeah yeah I had to be somebody okay and then I had this conversation why is there lies that makes it right then and I had this conversation actually walking out of pigeons playing ping pong okay and the Ben said if if you're gonna be in the circus circuit I can't believe I have the stock if you're gonna be in the circus well would you be and I was like I don't know I don't know probably lion tamer he's like No Way do you be the strong man in one of those leopard leopard what's the boiling single that's what got me looking at think Mustad the middle stat rolls and a bald head and he was like yeah dude that's what you would be R. honestly growing up around circus it was so mmhm gross to me as a kid it always smelled bad and it was like somewhere that I always had to wait as a child okay my mom visiting with people back behind backstage in like it was boring do you know what I mean the wait is fun it was loud to hear you say here that only works well with all the smells of the server and we did that yes and and then everybody was like B. as in the specially that ties is gonna say I've talked to you about the details about that my grandpa apple was not my blood grandfather way back our problems what was one of the original keystone cops back and during black and white films then went on to become an accountant beat just Panamint ads but but he was a clan he was in the Shriners and they they they do the clown right and I I it's amazing to me so many people have a phobia of clowns I don't have a phobia of clowns I was just kinda in that world of the class like it see is buddies they would come over to my grandpa's house like out of make up and but they were still fuckin plow and they were weird yeah and they smelled and they all smoke cigars and drink Bourbon so I did to me I will clowns I was always like a million gross not like scary you know with any wise or anything the sale of a clown college trips beyond its defense that is the thing but so going to the circus was a nightmare and then but if I had to do it I would have done the trapeze %HESITATION percent my whole family was attacked with a travel I was passing I was %HESITATION dope yeah probably catcher because the the swinging the flipping in that box I'm so scared of heights that I can't couldn't I would lock up but I could be doing all I could hang on the swing and catch somebody coming at me that doesn't seem as scary I just for being a kid to your family that was that was your uncle's house it had been hot there's two of them in the neighborhood there was your uncle right by yeah and I know the fans and then the one okay and I remember on %HESITATION being the kid on by when we moved in that neighborhood like nineteen seventy nine size like ten that was one of the things all the neighborhood kids day we'd ride our but you know bikes and we just sit there watching for hours on end to us like fantasizing of like oh gosh I wish I could do that and I remember like your uncle like the neighbor kids if they wanted to and parents permission would let him come play honest I never did I was always too I was afraid of heights I got a lot it was %HESITATION quilting well I wish you would you would think I had gone up a whole bunch of times in my life now twice twice both times I locked up and they had to get somebody to come get me down okay that would have been that that would be me I yeah I can't handle heights so how did you call the fire department to get jackass on off the rig so here we are we've traveled down Grateful Dead maybe that wasn't that wasn't on went to the circus Mel became a bohemian poses a wallet just Adam IRA failing highland airplanes so yeah right welcome to noticeable road thanks for staying Hey that was great we gave you an amazing episode with Jennifer Hart's work so well and we can at least give us this week and we just that we we discredit did an outro yesterday we usually talk about are weak but it was it wouldn't talk about a week yesterday though there's a little little is going the same it said they would cover up so the week it there's less to talk about between that rather that's why we made stuff up now I actually enjoyed this me to tell you the truth and I think we should do more of this I'll leave our weeks I think that we should not say what we should and shouldn't talk shit just in our district that's true and having like there we we have kind of gotten a more of a set format of how we do things first %HESITATION makes it up yeah I do like a mug died in our ass like we need to just get it out well tell me about your two bug juice it does use of it G. bug juice I am seeing an acupuncturist and one of he gave me these okay for my H. east dry scalp and so that's made a condition that I'm going to him for and also the tingling and numbness in my hands and he prescribed will not prescribe because it's not in %HESITATION prescription but he gave me these little tiny black your call yes like a spear ball of like herbs and it's for your for your windows for your windows to balance tame the wind in the body Simon this is so funny about this our son is the eternal skeptic for anything that has to do with like anything we were and mind you I raised him in the peak of all of my was it like this which I love the invite you this but he still comes to me because he knows that we're he's so funny he's like oh yeah your wins out a balanced fifty dollars but do you when yeah so one of the %HESITATION he asked me how I was doing and I was like well I'm still gonna noticing it I don't think that it's you know doing anything so he was like okay so many give you this it's in the formulas of it stronger are you okay with %HESITATION having crushed up bugs and I guess he so my question is like it's cicada wings or cicada shells cicada shells M. ground up amongst other things and it's supposed to be for %HESITATION you know itchiness I guess as a male being the nomadic traveler and up you are the type that melody lately sure I'll try it I will why not the kid then I'll be like bug juice man and I'll be the one to next time if somebody's you know obviously that's bullshit or you you know what you are to the bug juice because it worked I also I really need to take out any pig I will I love it why not if you have an
