Withoug further ado, the No Simple Road Crew gives you Mike Dubois
...welcome and thanks for spending some time with us. I'm excited to talk to you! I have been looking at your art I feel like forever yes do you know you could see I think right yeah we got one of your prints right there behind me it's the one that the what what's in okay I did a print with it %HESITATION later on without the %HESITATION the dead & company lettering on it would it would just called let there be songs to fill the air that is that peace wow okay that's the piece with I can't see it from here because it's cut off it's got the dead in the water yeah yeah yeah that's from when we saw them in Eugene a few years ago which was by using yeah those shows it was incredible so it might I want to %HESITATION just they start at the beginning with you man I %HESITATION you know I I I I'm an artist as well and to have my art represent the Grateful Dead would be like I wouldn't know what to do with myself I'd be so stoked hello there thank you what was your first show man my first show was %HESITATION %HESITATION it was Utica auditorium in nineteen eighty Y. Y. okay yeah my first show was February tenth nineteen eighty nine at the LA forum okay and the I mean it at that time when you went to the show were you already an artist and doing stuff at that point or no what is an artist but I wasn't doing anything for the dead at that point I was only a what was that about eighteen at that time at nineteen eight %HESITATION but %HESITATION I was into the whole punk scene and the clash and the Sex Pistols in all like I was playing in a bunch of bands and upstate New York and a lot of my friends went to the dead end I didn't really understand it I thought it was like country music or something weird you know what I mean because I was heavy into the punk thing and you know I I grew up with with hard rock but you know Aerosmith and all the early stuff you know that was popular in the seventies but I wasn't following the dead at that point I I would drive by the shows in the seventies when I was younger all the people in the parking lot it looks cool but I'm not sure well you know a lot of my friends were into it I went to the show and it really that was it I'm like oh this is a community I see artists everywhere the I didn't really still really the music didn't click again although I had done check your dollars at that point in time I didn't do a we had a freeze I think that might be on our end %HESITATION we lost you might contact I mean I mean let it catch up to itself all right cool sorry you said you had done psychedelics up to that point but in them we for us %HESITATION yeah but I didn't know about that show you know K. nineteen right so I enjoyed the show you know but I'm saying sometimes doing psychedelics at the show really as an overture to what the doorway is offering you know what what what the experiences although that's not to say that you can experience it without psychedelics but going on my first date shown I was just like but you know from then on I a lot of people were trading tapes and after that shell %HESITATION I'd start because my artwork was already in that vein even though loans like into the punk and pop movement people always say oh you're you're our week looks like it belongs in the Grateful Dead this is like in junior high and high school okay it is a pain in my car all psychedelic even though I was following the dead or anything but it was just like one of those things that was in me as an extra why was and %HESITATION anyway %HESITATION went to the first shell and then after that basically started out trading tapes and things kind of evolved from there a little bit you literally just told you my story add all right yeah on mine and so many others yeah coming from the punk and the punk and metal hard rock and then go into our first show not that me and him both too it was like what is this country stop I can't listen to this B. S. you know I they have a really cool imagery but doesn't suit their music and then you go to a show like you said and and like you said that that was it right I didn't understand why anybody would want to take acid at a country music show it just didn't make sense to me I was like well what would you do that for it sounds like a nightmare yeah I'd always like to do that kind of stuff out in the woods right you know yeah us too and you know I came from listen into like the misfits and the bad brains in you know you have the right to work stuff Jerry still lives here and they you know they're still around I mean that they don't play obviously but those guys had a huge impact yeah man legends for sure and you know coming from that scene like you said it it the art was ubiquitous with the music it was one in the same they went together and the thing with the dead that was so strange to me before I went to my first show was why the imagery look the way it did but the music sounded almost antithetical to the art from the outside do you know what I'm saying like right schools don't match the sugary C. or truck in lake yeah didn't make sense but after having the first second Alec experience at a show it was like oh I see I get it and that's when like it all came came to life so like for you man I am curious did a did you immediately like once you got on the bus start doing stuff for them or how did that come about that you started making our yours later R. on my first show up I I went to school %HESITATION I went to college after that and %HESITATION I went to a heavy duty east coast dead I mean %HESITATION town new Paltz New York was like the east coast you know deadhead central I don't know if you know the town yeah new Paltz New York it was like the Berkeley of the east you know was like everybody that was off tour with it was like the Santa Cruz in the east like everybody off tour would be in new Paltz and but I was going to school there but the whole town was just filled with you know dead heads and hippies and stuff that were you know still hang in there a beautiful place %HESITATION in the mountains down here in the Catskill Mountains and up only two hours north of New York City and you can get to New England %HESITATION quicker the very you know %HESITATION convenient place to live and and a beautiful place but anyway I had a %HESITATION a pretty large counter culture at that point in time right now really big I mean the college was a great art college to that's what I want my ancestors unsettled that town and the sixteen hundreds but that's not why I went just land back there after you know a couple hundred years %HESITATION anyway %HESITATION but you know when I got the new Paltz it was so it was that had central and you know we're going to work tween that semesters and stuff like that and you know Jerry band and other incarnations had played at the college during the spring weekend shows and there was always a presence of it in the background okay there was always the Julian and we how close were you into it though like you were clearly around it but like where you like dressing like that where you consider yourself to be yeah dead head hit be it in that yeah you know it still to this day I've never I don't like defining things by certain words %HESITATION asked me to number fine by itself is a dead head even though I'm close to the band that worked with the band that I love the band but that doesn't mean I don't love you know all those punk bands that are still open %HESITATION let's see when you get categorized as a dead head yes a lot of stigma goes along with that you know what I'm saying they do that this is a great conversation I'm glad you bring it up we can talk a lot more about it but %HESITATION I never called myself a deadhead yeah I you know I had long hair and whatever I was an artist you know I did my thing I just like the individuals in the Grateful Dead and the Grateful Dead organization they carved their own with their individual vision of their art and if people wanted to come along and jump on the good bugs bandwagon that's where my head was always what was that so like I just kind of slipped in there and you know what was that kind of person that they were and %HESITATION that's not not how I started working for them yeah sorry there in head space you know yes how did the other it's a dress store %HESITATION you know like that yeah but how did it come together make that like from touring you know one between semesters at school and doing your thing to okay do we know how to connect back up so yeah going to shows %HESITATION are you a I don't always try to make everybody tries to make a little money here and there so I had and then it was tricked out with the bad and the little stove and all that so I I knew my girlfriend would sell like he there right and stuff like that just to make a couple Bucks to you know move around and %HESITATION you know I was going to make a living in art when I was going to art school and all that kind of thing but so anyway fast forward a few years of touring in school and bunch of other stuff and I graduated in eighty six and I decided to launch %HESITATION %HESITATION small line of my clothing T. shirts and greeting cards like a bunch of money to produce those things and I knew I could sell them in the parking lot so you know who wants to get a job right I was actually surprised I rolled in with you know a couple bags of shirts I don't know if you ever saw my first design that was out there nineteen eighty six it's a big orange sign faces smiling sun high done around my ear I had that sticker on my bus okay yeah yeah so that that was my first is all about the data out I took it to I think Philly was the first place that sold I'm not yes sold out within an hour or two oh man I got like a thousand Bucks this is awesome I'm sure it's in the parking lot no that's not a that's not a little amount of money back then either that was like I was twenty three years old and I've made thousand Bucks in the parking lot I was like this is all right I get hang out my friends to my you know those shirts then I launched like gum for blood more designs that year and %HESITATION just kept going on tour and in between I go like to college campuses or somewhere there was a small show and I just kept doing that and %HESITATION built it up you know over time I started doing you know trade shows and to %HESITATION to reach a wider audience the where I could wholesale to stores and stuff next jumping ahead a little bit but some you know I built my line of clothing and stickers and you know art prints and things like that early on so I mean I'm still kind of doing this in the same vein of you know of that road as you know on that road but you know it's evolved a lot so I mean what you're working for the dead in nineteen eighty six did not designed for them so %HESITATION they %HESITATION there was a company in new Paltz world called not fade away I don't know if you heard of not fade away graphics %HESITATION yeah they were one of the early ones to have a Grateful Dead license and %HESITATION you know they knew my artwork and I submitted some are through them and %HESITATION got it approved and %HESITATION at my first design on %HESITATION the eighty six tour well wow man that well so that son design that you did I if you look at the logo of our show I designed the logo what year is derived from right and and also you you know like okay yeah man and and now the Senate I had the Sagittarius sticker that you did because you didn't you do it %HESITATION one was done that one was on I know that was %HESITATION Jerry Jasper did that wasn't okay okay all right yeah I did the first base she needed another son and then he did some %HESITATION the astrological sign yeah man we woke up early in the parking lot you know so the going back to to that time there was a the Grateful Dead created their own aesthetic there there was nothing quite like the artwork that surrounded the Grateful Dead it was its own little contained universe and it was very particular to them N. noticeable you could see a design it didn't have to say Grateful Dead but you knew that it was associate L. yeah and that aesthetic didn't change for a very long time and so pretty much everything was derivative from everything else within the scene it was like its own ecosystem that kept like that or or borrows you know what I mean and the right yeah but now I would say a sincere the well we've seen the art and style of the Grateful Dead culture more and change into something Elz no the stuff that you and I A. would recognize this Grateful Dead iterated is still around but there are reasons for what you're saying because yeah I know I'm just curious what your take on it is and how you feel about it because I have my own feelings and we've talked to some of those artists that have made some of that stuff but I'm curious what your take is why it happened and how you feel about it well first of all I know most of the artists there works from eighty six on and most of the ones that are doing stuff now and all you know someone can speak up upon wrong I'm not sure but I think I'm the last one that bridges the gap between then and now I think I might be the last of the old school that artists that still doing work in a dead and company right yeah some don't do some Cora Phil and friends or or Bobby but I'm I'm trying to think of who might have been around that and it still does it %HESITATION but maybe someone will speak up but anyway the aesthetic changed because %HESITATION Grateful Dead productions dissolved at a certain point in time after all around the time a fairly well maybe maybe before that but and then %HESITATION live nation took over in terms of up all their marketing and %HESITATION merchandise production art all directions and things like that so %HESITATION needless to say there's a reason without getting into I got you know details %HESITATION but mostly let me do what I want for the most part and I try to bridge it with the past if you look at you know you know you can go on my website or other places and see my older stuff and then see what I'll do for dead and company or Bobby now or more Phil and friends and I came in the same John rogaine %HESITATION yes you E. I can I can see when I see your art I know it's you before I see the signature you have a very distinct mom style in I mean your calendars have been in my cubicle at work for ever and you know if you want L. Anders they're so amazing one of my favorite tool we have both of our in my room on the mantle on my fireplace is and I was gonna ask on that the the gnome grown I have %HESITATION the gnome grown tapestry hanging act that when did you Grateful Dead he's now see my lot of my own art which crosses you know the same thank god the things I love that I've I've had that for years and every time I look at it expense free after like you know having psychedelics coming home from a show or something I see something new and everything changes and then we also we have the mushroom one oh yeah that's in our basement yeah that's hanging in my I love those are just amazing pieces of mushroom or swirled okay so yeah even though maybe not just the licensed stuff that's coming out now but also I mean part of the awesome thing about being in this community is the artist community that is supported by this you know what I mean that support themselves by this thing and the lot scene with the advent of the internet and at and really this is again post fare thee well the lot scene has gone digital there's a digital lot now where the you know it doesn't have to just be in a parking lot you're seeing all this stuff twenty four seven you go to Instagram follow these pages that these young guys are are putting stuff out left and right and what I see I I think one of the artists that is %HESITATION really he what's the word I'm looking for influential is the word really influential in the changing of things Jeremy dean okay I don't know so have you seen it's a steal your face and it's as we can discover the wonders of Black Flag have you seen that %HESITATION I'm gonna write that down the so if you if you check out what he's doing when you go to his his site you'll see his style and then you're going to see what I'm talking about it's the like warped lettering he's done some work for mayor mayors tour like the where you'll take the lettering and drag it down and yeah and it it it's derivative of the old member when we were going to punk shows back in the day and you would get the the the poster without the poster that you know that I love and piece of paper for the pump where the hand drawn skeleton with like sharpie like that aesthetic has his come into the Grateful Dead scene and it it's a trip man for me N. and like I can imagine for you a design that comes to mind is %HESITATION a guy took the bones are no I'm sorry the misfits skull okay I know that right and split it in half with birth the coming out of the mess right and like my first show I walked in wearing a misfits T. shirt so that %HESITATION that image was like holy shit that's my whole life right there that's what happened will be yeah I %HESITATION yeah I got a hoodie of it but seeing that happen and seeing the ascetic change and have been having had been around back then I had feelings about I at first I was like you can't do that are you being one of those I can't work in we've seen all kinds of crazy things like all the people that like sports teams in the steely I mean that was always weird to me but I got like they're saying okay I like %HESITATION the Buffalo Bills in the Grateful Dead or whatever right right are you going but I K. I realize now like it's really beautiful man it because it's a live call in the thing is still alive and it's changing and and there's young cats they're getting into the scene and they're bringing their influences with them and doing what you did and what I did back in the day and creating our own and it's dope what they're doing and you know it's hard to like like mill city being one of those stolen she across the S. dead heads that's like well because it you know it's great when something's kind of like a secret and you know about it and it's it's amazing especially like you know those old punk shows you know you have to find out about %HESITATION and but when something gets popular because it's amazing and it's helping you know helping people like wake up or helping people have a good time it's always gonna evolve it can't stay the same right there's no way for like the world to be as connected as we are have these young kids listening to it with their kids growing up and their parents and uncles listening to it it's so much more prevalent and so it's really created what we're seeing right now like that change but it's fun it is fun what it is a lot there's a lot of crossover now because %HESITATION like you said a lot of these parents are I have kids that are twenty and twenty five yeah us too there %HESITATION there's a they take their own take on it and %HESITATION morph it into something else which and that's you know it's interesting that this musical form grateful that started or maybe they continued it from a number of other influences but %HESITATION it'll morph into something else and live on in a certain way you know %HESITATION so you know we can't stop it or influence it but we can observe it and %HESITATION comment on it and hopefully it seems to be out you know there's a lot of all shoot younger bands now that I have a similar aesthetic and that's similar jam style that evokes a positive bod and good feeling at all that's what we want you know and you know and and you know there's enough documentation of the Grateful Dead that everybody can be happy forever yeah yeah yeah and yeah what this what we're doing wouldn't exist without that wider scope of jam music that's around now from what you know the dead I I see the debt is like the roots of the tree you know and this thing has grown out of it and it's just really awesome we wouldn't you know we wouldn't have talked to a third of the people that we spoke well that's it wasn't that I was gonna say they're watching these the younger artists of all of because we started this podcast like five years ago %HESITATION Alisa it on my Instagram online ceramics and then sounds Corp we talked to her very early on hosting a %HESITATION just is an offshoot because you just reminded me I'm I'm I conceived of and M. hosting a poster expo here in Woodstock may fourteenth and fifteen Zacks corpus cunning and a whole bunch of younger artists as well as older traditional artists that %HESITATION we're involved with the Grateful Dead as well as other bands and it's a real cross pollination counter cultural festival it's called it's called Woodstock rock art and poster show W. A. R. P. S. it's the first you're doing it I'm I'm in the middle of organizing and now and I I got a good roster of of artists I don't want to name people right now no no we have sent out any %HESITATION you know press releases yet all I did is make up first Instagram and Facebook post about it like earlier this week so this is all new but it's been in the process or what the point being is a lot of these younger artists and old time artists like me and %HESITATION even older artists like David Byrne are gonna be there David Byrd was such so more artists for many years he's like you know getting up there nobody's gonna come all the way out from LA and we're you know we got like you know hopefully okay I don't want a lot of people but there's going to be painted school buses and all kinds of crazy things me what was going on Mike I if you could do me a favor and make yourself a note or whatever when when you do put out a press release and you have like an image that I can share we send we send me that so that I can help you promote on our Instagram yet you have the M. and writer and on your own yeah it's just no simple road at G. mail dot com and I think that your most recent post on the Instagram as a you design the like poster for this upcoming I saw that recently worked longer now I I done one yet but yeah you can you can see it there I am kind of he wants to go no I I'm hesitant to ask you this question because I feel like this might be asking a musician with their favorite song is that they've written I won't do it but but is there a a piece that you've done or something a project that you've worked with that was like you feel like was the purest our truest expression of what you were trying to get out like that was the pinnacle or your favorite I I know I have to say no no I'm all done a lot of projects they're all in the similar give me a a similar ride in it in terms of hi you know so working with bill Walton was also in doing all that stuff I did for sure the well was awesome I did years of work or %HESITATION at terrapin crossroads years work for Levon helm studios electric third album cover I you know did stuff for Black Sabbath and read all this crazy stuff so it's hard to say right yeah that's a lot of shit that's a lot of really amazing moments it would be hard to pay that's a wonderful resume it at two two other ones I got to throw in there that I love of your artwork always grew up on the peanuts I love I love the Charlie Brown Christmas you know it's UBS right is that that that's not that's I don't I don't think that allowed me to do some actual psychedelic peanuts pieces which was amazing I did some limited edition so I sing with you know Charles Schulz characters and then the data different on the barrel yeah there there are me because that's another one those things like we're talking about like punk and dad Crossey that's like the peanuts and psychedelia crossing and like a license plate hello yeah then then the other one to use the the stuff they admitted to me in my mind it immediately it's almost like you can did homage to Dr Seuss like the coloring book you put out and and you know it's very Dr Susie in a lot of crazy cool stuff going on in those yeah those are yeah those are my drawings and they are also %HESITATION some of them are you know from the dead or posters I've done that you know I just switched up and took the line are you from and %HESITATION reduce them down %HESITATION yeah I'll send you tell me your address also you guys all from the packages and %HESITATION we're a lover of your work well before hello we like to do trade yeah going to say well when we're done I'll I'll give you my address and you give me yours and I'll send you some stuff too all right we'll make a trade yeah you know it's a it's a funny thing my because if art is so important globally period art is important but in in this music coming musical community that were part of it's so important because like I said before it's ubiquitous they go together and it's without the art the music would be missing something to me and I know a lot of other people feel that way too and to have made a career out of doing that is to me extraordinary because I understand from an artist's perspective what that means you know what I'm saying like that's that's heavy man that like just to get spiritual %HESITATION woo about it for secondly this current that we stepped into all these years ago took you in and like made you apart you made yourself a part of it and it ocilla T. did you putting food on your table in raising your kids up for fucking house and make that to me is like it's like you know it it's a combination of things it's a combination of your self determination your talent here %HESITATION opportunities that are presented to you that you recognize you have to recognize stores that are open and one thing I've learned as I've gotten older you can't step through every door because you know you have to learn to say no sometimes which is a problem for me over the years yeah we only have a limited amount of time so you know it's easy when you're an artist %HESITATION yeah yeah yeah I'll do that I'll do that and then you're wasting time or something anyway being alone so much in your opportunities that you take is important for me and then you know there is I believe in you know I I don't I don't follow specific religion but I know there's other dimensions that help us and get hate things personally that's my opinion that that Sir so like you know we call it luck synchronicity or whatever you wanna call it but those things help to maybe there's pre destiny maybe there's karma I don't know the answers to everything but I try to stay clean clear and keep moving and %HESITATION other thing going so that you know these doors keep opening and you have choices and %HESITATION and that's that's kind of you know man to to have your lake the vision what's in your own your creativity your your mind to have that come out and then what you put down on paper to become the imagery for this thing that represents so much for so many people is a big deal and %HESITATION I know I know you know they that's been amazing like to hook into a community that are already existed that really appreciate that that was such a gift to all to ride that wave I'm still running away has to no I and the only reason I know to say this to you is because we've experienced some of it to do in this lake yeah when I stepped into this scene like it took me awhile to find my feet you know what I mean a very long while the figure my head out but and we'll come in comfortable and all that yeah but like August yeah yeah man but once it's not it's not easy it's not easy for me to sit here and publicly speaking right now it's not so much and but to be allowed to have a seat at the table and be a part of this thing is is a huge deal and and I understand the gravity of it and what it means to to have a voice N. your art also has a voice the same way that the show has a voice and it's it's really beautiful brother like it thanks for for what you've done like really keeps that's part of the thing that keeps inspiring me because I kind of like to be a behind the scenes kind of person and I don't like public speaking and all that kind of stuff although I'm a decent social person but I'd you know I'd rather be behind the scenes creating a scene and then watching it you know I'm old and watching the response and the %HESITATION sh the repercussions that happen whether it's through my art or creating an event or you know keeping keeping the ball rolling you know okay so I wonder you just brought up the word inspiration I wanna say something about that because it blew me away a few weeks back whatever you post on your Instagram up %HESITATION picture of your studio on your property up there and I I showed error I was I was I was like do you talk about like the dopa studio that's going to be the most inspiration ever heard though the way it sits there in those hills and everything and and I mean that is just gorgeous all stories about how I got that and I landed here and like all these things are like gifts from the universe but there again recognizing the doors that open and you have to take action you know there's action required in terms of %HESITATION taking steps which is it's harder for artists or anybody in life movement I know I wasn't you know great musicians and artists that struggle daily that are probably way more talented than all of us you know what I mean it's hard to actually do the things or get over your own limitations you know like the old saying goes argue for your limitations down there yours barriers and and this is important you know %HESITATION Mike right can you walk us through one of those situations where you've had to do that like what you're talking about %HESITATION recognize recognize that door taking action and you know like you said your does how you sitting in this place our studio or like based on your own well let me think of you know I ask because here's a here's a story it's related to the Grateful Dead about how I got my house all right hello really cool mountain top place now I'll try to keep it down to two minutes here you don't have a time a time limit we're a podcast %HESITATION this is so this is nineteen along it was nineteen ninety and I was living in a house in the house if another comic place I landed it was the ex house of %HESITATION van Morrison where he wrote moon dancing %HESITATION hello honey I was living on the mountain top I was renting it fresh out of college but I landed there the care taking sort of thing which is the or two it is way that'll happen which I won't even get in that whole thing but I was there I was there for like six years and then the owners decided to sell it and %HESITATION you know it's hard to find a place even back then so on part of the story in one part okay so I had to some psychedelic nineteen seventy three Dodge van that I've traveled all over the country that I referred to earlier yeah so I still had that band and it was it was getting pretty old was all clean it up with my stuff and had a bed in it not much I gave it to some homeless guy in Woodstock concert here man here's a house live in park in the woods or whatever so he did that and then %HESITATION you know I knew where the van was for about a year and a half two years ago and this guy was living the other story like I said I had to move I had nowhere to go and so someone came up and okay then for like a year the van was gone from wherever the guy had parked it where I knew where it was that it was gonna go to got towed to the junk yard that was the end of that and that you know I was like oh man may have been took me around the country for several you know all tourism all over the place and I was that I never knew or what but it was just a van but someone came up to me and said Hey man I know I know what you're bad land and I'm like oh yeah it was it was up on this mountaintop beautiful property with the field that had a panoramic view of the mountains and I drove up there with my video camera at big old one you know those video the other day I believe okay my band sitting there in the spiel all painted like one of those cheesy sort of looking thank god I'm like but then found a good home you know I did okay I love that was it and then when I come a week later I was at the health food store and I see that my name calling and I'm like well I've been on the road again and I went up to the people listening and we're you got my name right and what happened and they go over we're going to live a with the %HESITATION what about what Indian tribe was in North Dakota I'm like you're taking this thing the North Dakota after all these years yeah I might well what's happening with the beautiful house than that where it was sitting where I came up there and video tapes hello we we haven't rented and not so well I really need a place to live now no no no it's it's right as that of all right well you know I here's my number anything comes up and then I didn't hear from these people I I'm hopeful not being long winded I this is exactly what we want to go on this and all those stories into the side for a second I'm getting ready to send boxes of church to my body and %HESITATION Santa Barbara because he was gonna do the west coast to were forming with the shirts and he sends money back in he makes money and you know I just I would just shirts out there you know so I skipped like gum two thousand dollars with the shorts out and UPS left a mark with the wrong address and %HESITATION my friend didn't give them anything you know so I'm my own man we got to put in a claim then you know and try to get some reimbursement for UPS is fucked up and my body was driving down the road and he saw the boxes on a neighbor's porcini wouldn't screw them up and ruminants band to come back call I said well we're still going to put that claim and resend it so bad that I didn't have any money and like one story short we we both got a thousand Bucks me and I kept the grand so so then I was like man and I drove over the hill where my van was like I just kept looking at that house and like men I really want to move in that place and then I saw the people walking on the road I said Hey I know you're going to North Dakota so I got a thousand Bucks let me move in that house and %HESITATION and they're like no no we can't can't assembled you know if anything changes let me know that a thousand Bucks for your trip and you know call me up then a few days later %HESITATION they called me again the thousand Bucks they took my band in North Dakota I got this in five acre properties you all up on the mountain Victorian house all because of the Grateful Dead shirts that psychedelic band and the way that I'm told those are good there goes our doors would open that I followed through that shit happens all the fucking time you live in that current it's Mike it's it's it's an older house okay you know a couple years ago same kind of deal I don't want to go to the store I can tell you if not not do you know two dissimilar for the place that we're sitting in right now yeah no bullshit that's like yes well they yeah they they have got that arose you yeah it's it's trippy how that how all that works man and and the way like I don't know some you know it all my connections with all these people from the pranksters wavy gravy and all the stuff I'm a lot younger than all of them like twenty years younger you know what I mean right like I did %HESITATION acted so much with all these different people in this community you know I you know it's just interesting how it's so it unfolds and %HESITATION it's beautiful rolling whether you know me too man that it's a it's you know at least we're enjoying the ride but what else can you say Mike there's one thing too that we want to talk about this year what I have you haven't get there already but we want to ask about the N. F. T. but I have a selfish question I want to ask you first about your process and when I'm looking at your art like the print that's behind me or the calendar as a as a fellow artist it's hard for me to figure out what your media is I like that that's okay exactly yeah you know what those questions are a lot of people asking that's how I create and that's why it's kinda indistinguishable whether how I do it exactly and it's a real cross between old school new school techniques and %HESITATION you know I I still do oil painting and I also use like a wait come tablet on the computer to draw and create things okay so a lot of times like what you're looking at there and back to you is a combination of him drawn line art that stand in the computer and then colorized that's a hand silkscreen printed nine colors so while build that color by color one color at a time %HESITATION creating translucent layers over each other to create you know thirty four colors that give a perception of depth and %HESITATION and you know how about you know it so I create the layers in the computer and create a whole home set up for my silkscreen printer to actually lay down the inks and much you know one is made I think I remember specifically like against that I had your calendar in my cubicle at work and I remember sitting one day and staring at one of the it was I think if there was it was like Vegas in the in the drawing and they're like a truck driving down the strip or something like that and yeah and I'm just like okay this isn't it this looks like it might be done with a brush but there's ten in here and the I was just baffled by how you definitely man it's so unique and so I'm stoked to talk to you you for a digital technology and %HESITATION grew up drawing and painting so I have a lot of experience with that obviously okay you know I actually like the look of that so awesome and I think that's what defines you honestly that's how I know reading it into the digital world where I can manipulate things change colors and stretch and move things around but still retain the hand drawn quality of it gives you a little more adaptability in freedom yeah well you know my older pieces for the dead and all that were on not only him drawn but I use airbrush well each you know all that early stuff did you ever see the earth rose the dead even dead and company use it now and in back of them like %HESITATION %HESITATION yeah yeah and that's just one yes but I know you're talking to so %HESITATION rush that was before how did you end up doing the N. F. T. man tell me about this yes she has well it hasn't quite happened yet it's getting there %HESITATION that's all new to me really the whole out me too I'm just console confused by it I don't get it I mean I I kind of understand that it's a piece of digital art that has a connection to the blockchain so that if that art is ever bought you get a piece of whatever it sells for is that correct yeah and and it can be tracked on the blockchain as to who has it where it went and how it's traded I guess on but again you know this is kind of new to me on you know music art dot I always the one producing these energies for me N. O. R. okay they've released them yet no I don't think so either really so what what exactly do you know what it are they taking your existing art and creating digital copies that are going to them B. N. F. T. E.'s or are you creating unique original our allies the first five I gave them yeah okay if you know if this turned out to be something I wanted to do that you know I could easily manipulate things into new pieces or just create random pieces on I guess we'll see how it all goes yeah I mean I'm going nuts you know trying to figure it out I left it all up to them and see what happens do you know do you know when that's going to be available or any of that like well B. but they I don't know if you check them out music arts dot I owe on I think they're still trying to sort out a bunch of details %HESITATION about when and how to launch it keeps getting pushed up I don't know the answer to exactly one okay yeah it's it's it's a confusing I don't know I'm I'm fifty why not just your JPEG can you put it on your screen Hey enjoy it but I think the the I think the allure of the N. F. T. is the same thing as the will Burt way I think about it is kind of like a numbered poster right you know that it's one of one for the N. F. T. there's only one of those and it's got this serial number and it's tracked and that is now the only one in everybody knows it and I and I think what's cool about that man is that the market like the people that love the art are the ones generating the worth of the piece it's not like some some dude it's us figuring out what it's worth to us as people that love the art that's kind of cool yeah so yeah I'm I'm I'm looking at your place it it with crypto currency though I think it is right yeah yeah I did so stop is also so we're just sitting here at our house with our friends we're for EMP hits in wrong there's no computers I got paper when I got out I feel left behind here you listen you to talk so you don't even really get a per it's a digital prank he doesn't have a lot in here it's not %HESITATION think over it yeah well you do have a file on your computer image is Dante image that you are the only one that has the owner of that yeah like so that you can only pull it up on your computer to look at well there's did so there's like digital frame us in here and there so okay there's things that you could you know that like you ever see that cat it's like on the computer and it's got a rainbow call yeah yeah I called neon cat a cat thing became an N. F. T. somebody owns the original neon cat file and it was like a million dollars or some shit like it's ridiculous okay so our stand one bottle yeah it is well I mean we come for the A. I. I want a physical plant yeah it's what's the same thing to me is like books now they like they like they read audio you know are at the top of the audible but I need a book in my hand I need to feel the way they need to turn the pages right I don't want to reveal your an analog you may I know you know regardless of how we feel I I feel like there's always going to be a need and desire for physical yes one these may come and go they may stick around I don't know but I feel I'm on the other and we're always going to want to this call press one books will always exist you yeah well that's just like look of vinyl look at the L. P. the vinyl game is so strong now well I know I know for sure I am not waiting in the merch line in a show for a thumb drive no no no no I'll be like what why so illegal drugs all you get is a paper with a number on it to download right right okay not a piece of paper there you're gonna hold your phone again it's going to go to college there you go man a Grou thanks yeah Mike thanks for hanging out with this is super fun I I'd I really really appreciate this man this is super Soren and he meant it we are a we're here to help you guys get the word out when you have stuff going on so any time you have anything you need to promote let me know and %HESITATION all posted on our pages and put it up on our website and help you out in any way we can I will let me know about this show that's coming up in may because that's kind of on you know crosses genres and and generations as far as poster artists go yeah I wish we could be there for that yeah it's super cool I thought I could still stand that will make a living doing art so %HESITATION %HESITATION it shows that rather than let the touring life of a musician I think we're all glad you did she still drum thanks I do yeah mmhm right on well if we were enjoy the rest your night my friend and %HESITATION like I said if you need anything you just reach out and let us know member here for you thanks yeah I was checking out your podcast last couple weeks and really enjoyed means the world brother you got you got incredible one of artists it's like I said with mock malls interview he is so amazing that is that is like the most genuine cat made that guy that you see on that you too busy exact same guy when the cameras off it's easy he's amazing yeah and his story the you know like how he came out of where he lived and all that raising you know part of this whole thing is this is like alien territory you know what I mean and it just goes on %HESITATION well like you said he's an influencer sort of I guess yeah yeah well he's going to do yeah he's got all falling Mike I'll tell you what man like we had done that the last time we had a mon I call the GMO effect like our listeners %HESITATION our listenership for when up Blake I don't know twenty seven percent that month which is seen because of him solely yeah it's nuts how his rules are strange no no not those and make it all posts like those names you just mentioned %HESITATION put those up on our you tube channel may get a few hundred views Jamelle eight thousand four out it's nuts well it's interesting you know I don't know it's the world we're in man in you know what it's fine I I get it yeah and I'm just happy to be to have us a spot at the table like I said just doing our thing man I'm just happy credible it's great I'm so happy there's a form where this kind of thing can happen in you guys you know you must be growing in terms of your gap listenership %HESITATION yeah yeah it was it was very well I don't know it's tough man like twenty twenty nineteen we were getting ready to bust out and like blow up and then the pandemic happened Anna we had a lake circle the wagons and figure out what we're gonna do man it was it was a little little sketchy for a minute but I think we're all just as good the rebellion was sitting home and that's what it is that's what ended up happening like I it when it first happened I didn't put that together that that was what was gonna happen I didn't know and I was like shit we're doing a live music podcast and there's no music happening but then we got school schedule that time when we got Billy strings hanging out of his house we went out of my home do in Iraq so in other words they wanted to talk well and then we ended up being recording the pandemic the artists that were going through whatever they're going through during this time this it's so unique so just listening back during this time it really brings a lot of like I don't know a sense of pride in what we did we got to document a lot of these people's lives that our never happen again struggled yeah a part of life that will all they all come in they all commenting on their lives during the pandemic because so much of their lives depends on you know touring yeah yeah a lot of extra in style you know inspection in writing some people that know what to do with them so yes do we get we got almost I would like only though %HESITATION yes so we at least personal yesterday we recorded the intro for this next coming Thursday's episode and that's what we that's with like our whole outro the show was talking about how we all feel like there's a sense of hope and renewal in the air that that like things are charging will end it yeah and thank you for saying that yes I even asked that question is that you know sitting here I wonder if the people there listening to the show feel what I'm feeling yeah like you feel that kind of sense yeah so many new often we're in the right of renewal let's just keep manifesting that in you know to do we're gonna we're gonna manifest you some ads here in a second though hold on to your hats folks this couple ads coming your way and then you can hang out with us in the front hello tote manifesto defined premium cannot define premium cannabis well there appear in the Portland area we have two locations one in Hillsboro one of four stroke deserve all of your to it what I wanted like honey comb we don't have money not to allow you I know you've found the one we've carried honey it's not a big popular item but we have all kinds of other things and they're hooking up the no simple road family with ten percent off when you come in you tell him Hey I listen to no simple road I'm I'm a member of the no separate family and they're like here's ten percent off and if it's your first time in the give you free T. shirt and if you're wearing that T. shirt when you come in on a subsequent visit you can get fifteen percent off the whole thing it's it's it's a it's a whole Langer senator of savings to to say super groovy and medicated and keeping your mind and body like on point there you go Hillsborough four stroke five premium cannabis smoke weed god said let there be light but then man said let's let's make it does and then elected at all was right with it I'm going to make it even cooler and open anybody else did and the way they did that is because it has a Bluetooth speaker in it yeah you can have like a little minions serenading you while the changes colors revolutionary lighting it is it's rough but it's actually electric fish lighting and they're given the no simple road family of twenty five percent say that again twenty five percent off with the promo code N. S. R. that's right NSR you type that in twenty five percent off and they're gonna put Delaware magic in the box which could be anything from crystals to T. shirts and ties to headbands to stickers who knows I don't know you have to find out when you order from elected official it's been elected for slate dot com yeah that was my yeah well everybody yeah yes awful cat with really talented hands in Superfund storyteller too yeah I think he tells the stories very well that his story about his house how he got his house with the bus in the whole thing that that's a trip it's amazing it's I love when people have that kind of synchronicity in their life and they're able to share it I would like people like %HESITATION yeah this stuff happens all the time but when you get a specific lake moment or specific story of that it's just it's I don't know does something it lake internally it makes me like so happy does actually feel Y. LA does a lot a word I think of is exhilarating it makes me feel a certain way on the inside I think for me like when I hear stuff like that his stuff things like that happen to us right all the time yes and for me I have a tendency to like try N. talk myself out of that like you're not alone right so I'll be like well that's that's just coincidence was originally because science kind right explains things take the magic away from their scientifically right in the matches that I'll miss our mind can do that too takes away the magic but make no mistake there's true magic out there and even if it's like a person who already knew who you were and somehow or another got connected the way that things happen when they're divine like that is just it there's nothing else like in Edward when I hear those stories at like it makes me feel bad for ever trying to talk myself out of the magic yeah you just gotta go with it well that was that's that was my whole like I don't wanna say problem but like the issue hang up baggage that I had when I first started going to see the dad was like I would have these amazing experiences at a show and they can venture involved could hopefully convince myself afterwards it like it was just the puddle that I was you know that I took it wore it was it was just because I was with those people or it was that wasn't real that that didn't happen and then the curious mysterious kid that was in my head be it let's do it again let's go find out if it happens again and then so I can and it's same thing would happen in the long I just know one thing is undeniable that there is a lot of magic going on up in the Woodstock area this is big there's a lot of men are going on %HESITATION yeah I feel like there's somebody in Woodstock we've been talking a lot of people we become acquainted with a lot of people in the Woodstock area over the last year a few months now it's specially it this this is a match place I can't wait to go visit actor the first connection that we made S. no simple road was with Kevin Calabro N. the CRB universe and Marco Benevento that was my first our first like Woodstock connection and there then we met the desk he Mike to Bora no the Grateful Dead terror I was just gonna say Grateful Dead Tero ladies what was so funny speaking of all that synchronicity was when we had Liz and Erin on from the Grateful Dead Tero %HESITATION we had said we were suppose I've talked to Mike before that and it didn't happen and we talked to them and then at the very end of that episode they're like you know you who you need to talk to is Mike DeWine really we're talking about it schedule yeah we rescheduled it and there's so many stories like that especially after coming back from skull and roses oh shit the Woodstock community was that what I was having a little bit of social anxiety that night on Saturday when we were we were in the %HESITATION J. blade Shaver expert art exhibit N. there was a lady in there that was like I think her name was Merion minding the store basically and I was having a little bit of anxiety and you started talking to her and I just A. league dipped out well I'm we had gone in the night before didn't we we get before and I I came back because speaking of those types of synchronicity this is exactly a story like that we go into the exhibit and looking at all these amazing pictures and she approaches me and was like Hey can I help you they're they're sick %HESITATION no we just kinda Sir talking wall she started saying you know she's from what's documents %HESITATION so you must know you know and then sh before even said she was like oh Aaron from the Grateful Dead Tero she and I and so that was like a connection to like you know we were in the tent earlier with Denise which was another connection because Denise %HESITATION if I hope I'm getting the proper I think it yes Denise %HESITATION from Woodstock %HESITATION as well and she nieces from brown eyed women which was the top performer for at skull and roses so these three women knew each other and somehow or another we've got it started talking about the peach fest and how we were going to be there and I believe when you found out where we were gonna be they said something about were jailed lodge for Jay had his name well this lady I think her name was Marianne but I'm sorry if I'm not forgetting it %HESITATION she was like oh I've been at the peach every single year that's that's what we're all mad all the time I can totally %HESITATION when you guys get there I can hook you up I'll just make sure you let me know let's keep in touch and she gave me her card and we just I get that point I was just kind of freaking out at the magic of skull and roses but the peach thing was also so fresh because we found out right before we left before we left and I'm like how the hell are we fought like making a connection for peach fest in this lake they chose happened you know and like with her and I were talking like we could talk about children we could talk about soda you know I mean that we can talk about anything but I the P. trus came up and she was more than happy to be like a liaison for us send to it she's like oh yeah I know where you guys are going to be it's going to be it's a great spot and she just kept on and on talking about how great and how much you love the peach and it's gonna be a great time and I left there and we gave each other a hug and then she smacked a friggin kiss right on my lips it was but it was so appropriate business so it is such an intense situation and like we were just like kinda tripping on each other like what what what what league so it was it that was one of the many synchronicity that happened at her memory is way better than my skull and roses my memory was like Hey guys this time for the sars talked having social anxiety I was I was all in the social brown's book and I was stoked okay is it why we haven't chilled because that that that booth was awesome the book is amazing and she's she's really sweet a really nice lady the state had nothing to do with just a little mayor was and I wasn't I hire anything I I was just he also knows the Mike to one having a moment of regardless for no reason they happen sometimes man has to be happens me without we need to have this be with we that happens to me doesn't happen as it happens it happens my brain is wired funny well I don't know what that is but yeah I mean I don't know if it's %HESITATION for me like a social anxiety but sometimes I just don't want to be seen %HESITATION heard like I just won it like retreat for me it's more it's more like like I'm done I feel like I I won't have anything to say and everything's gonna be awkward %HESITATION yeah I don't have the %HESITATION you just got to roll with that I suffer from that system that is go head all right away who cares yeah I'll think that like driving to somebody's house is like well what if the conversation starts that's how forward thinking shit that fucks you up gap then has that I is that everybody is gonna look at me and yeah so you're set yourself up so you're not white men are ready yeah you're not in the present when that's going down said that that's when breathing would actually help for social anxiety because it's your mind it and and then it creates a physical thing but if you can catch it before it goes to physical then that is you know it's like there's like a window in between where you start to be like projecting forward thoughts like oh my god this is weird that I'm gonna be scared or maybe say something stupid or whatever that's when you take your freaking breasts and do you know about neuroplasticity yes so if for those of you that don't know plasticity is like ingrained habits in your head and the way that we create new habits is through neuroplasticity by like doing things over and over again and so like that was very brief explanation what that means you can read entire papers on it but anyway it from having it happen often it's a mental habit some most of the time for me N. I don't even realize that it's going on do you get wet until like until the effect is happening the the physical effect of the anxiety until it's happening I'm not aware of the mental process you get what I mean yeah it just happened like somebody the homes are whistles right now I like a movie and and what it points it out right and what tips me off is like oh shit I'm having anxiety and then I'll think back and be like oh you were just thinking about this you know what I mean this or that it's it's not something I could I've been able to catch while it's going down to to like okay now I need to well I mean now that you're talking about it the try we have plenty of practice for you coming up in the yeah yeah we do what on earth on the worse it's going to happen is is you don't say something words it is like you make a fool of yourself or say somebody's name so why should Spani too loudly in this whole fucking shows that funniest videos but wonders and exhibitors I get it it's not rational it's now and I understand that and and like and I feel like that too I'm like who gives a shit what's the big deal anyway yes or all these people are fucking podcasts and talk for hours like you're gonna run out of some safety do well who knows what when or not you'll cure social anxiety that's a pretty hard like pretty big feet at least in recognizing it and all the opportunity we have maybe you can even before anything happens maybe you can be like I'm calm I'm chill it's gonna be a good time M. projector thoughts that way I'm a call strong confident women I know everything I know what to say you know is yeah listen to subliminal I am smart enough and gosh darn it people like me they eat it it for somebody that has that happening I have more than over compensated with placing myself in completely outrageous social situations yeah thank %HESITATION how you're gonna be up in front of the however many people at the peach festival life yes my social anxiety from me by and I think if I get scared or nervous like summer meltdown when we were going to be on stage and like the plague I won't think about it it could be like right in my ear or right you have to I won't I won't think about till it happens immediately okay okay here's the thing right we have a show right that needs planning I'm I'm just you know I'm saying my because we were I was having a conversation with a friend earlier and kind of telling her about her schedule and she was like oh my god you gave me anxiety just by telling me all the stuff that you're doing I kind of like the the programming the neural programming I have put myself in a position where I won't think about future things unless they're very close at hand I I don't have that luxury because I have to plan for all that shit mmhm yeah but once its plan what the fuck you gotta keep thinking about it for the you know they like the plane the plane tickets are bought there in our wallet right why you gotta think about a five days three days seven days who cares we're going on that date check at the morning or the night of and that's the end of the story this is the producer and a constantly pretty pretty even if everything's all set this is why it is going to be letting him everything and if you think about if I acted like that with you I wouldn't be able to do this with you to write both like and that's why in three different personality yeah well yeah and and %HESITATION earned as always been like that and always well it's part of who he is and what makes it work I yeah I remember seeing my dad I know that's like the root came you watched a hockey I as a kid watching him obsess over details and like triple checking share well he was a director lake that is detailed yeah Blake director equals detail so it makes sense yeah that that my little brain it just took it in when I was a little kid over and over and over and over and like that's %HESITATION that's how you act you know tell you person yeah yeah though I mean it it it is great for a lot of things it really is yeah it's useful at times it sure is and it's just you know being able to when you can if you can control it do it and when you the more often you can try the lake you know make that subside this is better for your stress level that's all not because you need to be perfect just so that you can have a little bit of easier and and we've talked about this and everything to it I don't know if we only we did talk about it since we got back but lately congradulations because you invoiced it when we're at skull and roses you several times set out how much you were in the moment and enjoying yourself do you have you had your moment to get into but you you're the cellist at anything we've done yes the same thing lately and you and you even said it and you you're not getting fussy with the bags and it like you were a lot more chilled than I've ever seen you which you need you need to you allowed yourself to enjoy what we're doing and also take it in well you know what happened is we do create it so much like if we if if our life is a dinner plate out the day two days before skull and roses the plate was overflowing like somebody all in all so many just like him and it was like a buffet place yet somebody came and just started putting stuff on the plate N. as we were actually driving to the airport I was like thinking to myself I can't bring all of this with me I need to leave all this shit here I can't process all this while processing what's going on and doing a festival and doing interviews and data and and I can't bring the shit with me you I can I just was like I don't play that I play fucking can't even think about any of this is I'm I'm on vacation and that's what I do all the time and look what happened dealer that would lead you to the like all three of us were there because they are trout like everything went so smoothly it did they I was hired on the flights the lake helped the picking up the car like everything everything slowed flowed beautifully and there was like even if there was a hiccup it was like taking care of immediately there perfectly it was that was it I can't wait to do the recap of the thing and I'm yeah we've got this going roses baby sitting in our stomachs ready to yeah and remember any of it when you get back from MSP that's what I'm saying I really should have been done I should because my god dude but I just want to say a huge shout out to the entire Woodstock are grateful dead fish you know community burner community in Woodstock because they are wonderful people so talented so welcoming and I can't wait to go there and check out what's going on U. P. is going to help you to feel I was looking for houses the other day I use an offered a job if anybody would stock has some land they want to rent a house to us on man we're no we're not ready for that market no we're not yeah we are wearing an apple two mil yeah yeah well we we will sort things out as they happen we're open to ideas yes definitely open to ideas %HESITATION you know it's going to scholar Murro is is going to peach going the MSG northwestern summit Beltane all the things like it seems like all of of it happened overnight to me this is what I was when I was talking to crystal earlier this is what I said to her at I realized as I was saying it wasn't a thought that I had consciously had their all of these things that are happening it's it's like if twenty nineteen all the things that happen in twenty nineteen it's the continuation of that yeah there was so much fire there was so much going on we had done all the festivals we were getting all of the accolades and all of the feedback from the job that we had done at skull and roses in northwest string summit and all these high Sierra all that stuff out this summer meltdown and it was like raring to be an incredible god knows what new year new time do whatever and we were preparing for skull and roses yeah and so that I feel like it really just kind of like gave it an extra blanket we push your kid on the swing like they want a good push like you show up you know like we got a really good boost from all of that and they did it got put on hold right that timing of what we were preparing for school owners yes getting ready and then everything got shut down and then opens back up and we start off with stolen rose like boom right back it is like they just it was like a stew it's like you put the lid on this to put it down on a really low simmer for two years and let it just keep marinating in getting the flavor go and then I found it in grabbing a drink and now it's it's it's like holy crap eight it is it it's how it is happening how do you feel about all of that apple thank god I feel I feel amazed by it that it came back this quickly as quickly it seems like as quickly as it got shut off on March eleventh like boom everything's over we had a chance to win the world the fuck home as what it was like Inslee not pass go do not collect two hundred dollars I don't ever cancel sports they don't do this thing that was where I am now all of its you know it some of that's been slowly coming back but for us and what we do also in mean that never stopped we've had fantastic interviews %HESITATION yeah now like we talk about this has been our therapy through all this and we're so pleased to hear from a lot of our listeners that it's been therapeutic yeah and and now it's back hello with a vengeance yeah with a vengeance and all these art artists as far you know musicians artists that you know do art work life of everybody has home to their instruments sharpen their minds are ready for a good time and it is just it's popping off I've ever seen this morning to we're like lookin at artists that we're gonna be interviewing it is so cool to look at like tour dates because for a long time thereby knows it be like a drive in show a live stream playing a small pub now people are nouns in there too orders through the end of the year and so many festivals happening very naive I mean it is just it it's like the floodgates opened okay it's back on are you ready for it I am beyond ready for it Eckley disprove that I had somebody with Erin was asked me that before he's like really do you because I told him I was due and would like to Terrel asking some terrible personal about anxiety building up to school on rose's traveling and stuff like that basically it's like everything's okay just chill and going back to school roses now having that under our belt having such a fantastic time and everything going so well it's like fuck our ready for this we sharpen our shit to come back what about you mail you ready for all of it I'll be ready when the time's right but sitting here right now the time is now I mean I feel like I'm never not ready like I think my head is always like it I I can always be like boy what about work I don't know but I'm always physically ready for it for it to be down I'm down always are you mentally ready I don't know man I was I was having a conversation that with my friend crystal I was just thinking about but it's different when it's happening verses when you're talking about what's going on in your life so if something's happening to you you're not necessarily narrating it you're feeling it but when you're telling somebody about what is going on in your life since we haven't caught up in months M. it it sounds overwhelming and if I think about it in those terms I get anxiety I'm like oh my god we have to fucking quit my job like this is crazy how you gonna make money and like like I start getting all that shit you know all those things but when it's here and I'm and we're dealing with we're going or traveling I am ready for it like I don't I'm not like %HESITATION Godlewski music we get there I hope I don't do that I I'm I'm excited about it I'm I'm good about it but yeah my head you know hi am I talking to analyze everything I can talk myself into it's going to be a fantastic time to why are we even doing this anymore I don't doesn't it's not helping really thank you I do I run the whole gamut later that's mental it is true like my good friend in a she really helped me to kind of like put an anchor on my A. always hide it minded brain she was like you're a double air sign and I I knew that but I never R. like I never got what I needed somebody to give it a leg because her she's a German I'm a libra and I'm a libra Gemini II you know and so that is looking to air sign such a serious Leo so but our it would that is endangered Maier sent but that was just saying that is like you're you're always thinking your heads in the clouds are streaming there's fantasy there's analytics there's trying to make things make sense all up here my body's common chill all sit down and do like I don't you wait a minute hello yeah you first of all you are the antithesis of call or chill really yeah for real you are the energizer bunny well neither no you don't you don't stop moving everybody that comes but she is like it's like I'm so that I'll call that is all I realize is bring that calmness to others yes and appear calm absolute disaster areas there is like a motor that's always running I'm energized I'm calm and energetic they're not opposites you can still be energetic and calm later Mel helps call me sometimes and I rarely need call me and call me much more %HESITATION if I can be a rough you know what I mean MLS help me of any time you know that yeah does have that she has that ability but also is the and I wish Bernie and I would like ring I don't feel like I guess I see myself in a different way like I'm not anxiety right now I'm like not right now but like you I mean I don't I don't feel those things in my body it goes it's in my head is where it happens thanks you guys will have that you both have a lot going on in your head yeah like well suited for sometimes no never ever said that may be the best way you too are are hard to be around yeah what you're both in the head space than the yeah like hectic %HESITATION I I keep telling me what I can tell sometimes what's this by walking on the patio or come in the kitchen and you guys are there's a conversation going on that is intense that you guys are trying to figure it's like ID no no no no no no it's Jack yeah I'm a come back later when they my favorite thing about people %HESITATION how they think that's how that's what makes me excited to be in a relationship with somebody whether it's a friendship or like I enjoy a conversation and thinking about and talking about things that that's that's what I love lake to me the best thing the end of the festival night nobody has to go home and just staying up talking that is like my fucking favorite thing to do not to be out running around like we already did all that I liked at the end to just fucking chill and talk about stuff like a warm Grammy blank yeah we're all set now on the patio bundled up yes this talk and I I like talking and I like people to like I like that I love conversation so that's good that that link we all that that yeah we're doing this talk to you %HESITATION there would be totally like it satiated manner in a certain kind of a way that is like there's a hole in your heart and it's only big enough for you or whatever you know it's like that there is in my head there's a certain kind of thing that like that it needs scratching and if I have I'm around people who are just like well that's cool that's fine I can drive yeah that that's one reason that it like we talked about ever since moving in here we've all known each other so long but moving in here together and the war reason it works is because we all love that there's never a dull moment now every once a while we have our download the moments on purpose yes yeah like when I told her like that when I tell somebody about lately %HESITATION late comer people want to come over here and stuff and people who've had over here it it's never dull moment were were not boring were not bored it's always something going on even when there's not there's something and you know wait well we all love by seven thirty a little while okay well that has to do with getting having Milan to get up at four in the morning I felt enough get up for the morning you wouldn't be going to bed at seven thirty absolutely not true we B. coupon codes until midnight when we add up to ten sometimes yeah and you know that has to do with our work schedule why I'm on the schedule what I am yeah that'll be gone eventually winning the duel are we want yeah we'll never sleep sleep whenever water lying upside down materials price civil oops terminal B. I guess everybody is dealing with did I guess just everybody deals with their you know anxiety either lake region %HESITATION tendencies differently and yeah you know and I just like with the social anxiety thing you were talking about I don't get social anxiety a get like my gas is empty and that's the end of it it's not about anxiety it's like I don't have anymore that's the end it's not like I'm scared to say something dumb it's like the Wells driving Hank is at yes yes it's time for sleep and nothing else no more to give no well as dry yeah that's that's me and you in more often than not that that the house of the week sync up that way what specially three of us yeah I'm sorry much a lot of the same schedule like I found myself last night okay I'm like better anyway I don't know for sure that it was I was like I really do want to hang out but I don't think you have to go to bed to get up there errands on your schedule he likes getting up in the morning the day he works on the part he does whatever yeah but last night I found myself I'm like fuck it so late I looked it was like nine oh five I'm like well I could go watch Saturday night like to do this or that night I went out like had another smoke smoke a bowl was like going to bed and I got a great night's sleep by sliding get up before but I got a credible might sleep but slept longer I normally do on the weekend and that you know we all kind of we Bologna I don't want anyone I am yeah I don't want to be waking up at three forty five every morning but no it's fine it it's what it is season yeah it's definitely a season and I'm enjoying it while it lasts I've been I've been thinking a lot about that lately about seasons yeah and like seasons of life I saw a picture today I was looking for something in ours like storage room and there's a picture in there from when we lived in Vegas and we're sitting in the backyard at my dad's house are you in Zambian Simon my dad or sitting in front of the fire and it was cold out whatever and I thought to myself like when that was happening it seem like that time was going to last forever and it feels like that in life life feels like that N. it's important to remember that their seasons that not every part of our life is fixed always happening yeah this festival season that we have all the stuff going on is a season absolutely and there's going to be a season of coming home and hunkering down back to basics yeah and the I think that has helped me be more present in stuff because it when it's difficult I have the knowledge now of like oh this isn't always going to be like this this this is the season and I just need to knuckle down and make it through it where before I would be like this fucking gonna be for ever I'm burning out like I don't know how I'm gonna get through this blah blah blah blah in yeah the macrocosm is even though you've been at your job for say fifteen years in the same industry maybe the seventeenth year you're not gonna be and you know that's that's another thing that we've like been discussing around here lately that is a fucking trip is like not working anymore for anybody but ourselves I like to say it working for ourselves one I am not working for anybody but ourselves is not coming it's coming king for ourselves full time okay the way the way however you want to say it it's common well I just you know you know how embarrassed and its power yeah it's a thing that like I don't even know how to say this like before it was just an idea N. it was like this long off in the future goal N. maybe some day if dot dot dot you know then we'll be there wherever there is N. it's fucking happening I think it's it's not like later down the road it's in the midst of going down and I don't think I've ever in my life been aware of something happening while it's happening like that lake does that make sense yeah that's only makes it we've all been talking about yeah I said that yeah we talked about that we're talking about the other day it's like for parts I I I I not not just feel that I can see it I feel that my bones my soul everything like this is all happening you apple feeling it and and expressing it does something a little bit different than Aaron saying it for me me too and may be I I maybe the explanation I can come up with is that now we all believe it and your vocalizing it keeping it to herself and because I know how Erin feels already and I know how I feel but to have and it's not like it's not like you don't feel like that but when you vocalize it and you're admitted vocalize yeah and your energy around it is different it's not like you know before Erin and I was like me and Aaron against apple you like pick on Aaron like Eugene series today and we know it kind of came in and we we weren't I I will say I'll speak for myself I was in a serious about no simple road I was dedicated but I was in a serious this ten I think we all I think we all kind and we've all said that since the what were the big thing Aaron you will you both Saturday and I'm realizing it is what it was like taking the beaver dam out of the stream of moving the studio down here yeah bondage Wayne the show up all right yeah S. yes it is the two completely since that happened has it's just a coincidence do one thing has nothing to do with the other yeah I think that all you're allowed and I don't buy that shit no but it's not magic it's like all of us we're we're all literally saying I'm going on me too me three and we all do it at the same time instead of saying I'm going on like I'll meet you there or I'll see their lake it's a corner yeah I'm you get us there all go once we get there call me yeah for the first time for the first time and all of our years of doing this to elections a person there's been moments and stuff but since like the beginning of the sure even before but I'm anticipating doing what we do one before was a site okay we're gonna because we weren't we weren't as schedule oriented as what exactly are we gonna do intro on Saturday Sunday like we are all lot more vocal and on top of things as far as the sketch a used to be we didn't know until the last minute are we going to do that's what I mean when I was said I was not like this morning I'm I when I woke up I was I could not wait to eat well we didn't do the interview were supposed to today but I was like built up I'm out on the patio listening to music getting pumped out a heart a working number were just like like this energy %HESITATION I want to be a peach right now like mounting anticipation is really building and that keeps for me it keeps it really sharp yeah and focused I wanna I wanna listen to everything of who we have coming up whether it's a month from now or whatever yeah like more lately yeah I had a Rockin and excited and %HESITATION but then not let me get to know too much and maybe this is far off but like say like you have a family businesses like a shoe repair something and lake you think it's fine because it makes good money and years it's safe but then you actually all in love with shoe repair and now you want to be a consumer repair man you know and so I feel like that's what happened it's like at the very beginning at and I like it right I fell in love with us again at at school and roses there's that there was definitely replace the romance was built since moving that's it and now I'm in love with what the three of us do and what this is again I think any relationship gets stagnant that's fucking true lake we've been in a relationship twenty four years you guys have been in one for thirty some whatever like they can recycle yeah they go through seasons and sometimes I get a fucking wake that thing up you know they're playing like that he hates lady that I disagree I just reach over put my peak between two my judgment that thirty plus he's like pockets but anyway a week I feel like no simple road got woken up and we all felt it it wasn't like what Erin will get upper Mel will get up it got woken up and we were all like oh shit did you feel that yeah I all time for the universe yeah right at spring exactly just coincidence anyway it is it was a coincidence or I remember at school and roses we were standin in the media area and we were you you and me N. we were talking about P. H. in just all the stuff that was going on and whatever all of it and you're like how do you feel and I was like I can't I can't do it right I can't process it's too much it's it's all awesome it's all the best news ever all at once one of these things would be the best thing that ever happened to us but it's the best thing that ever happened to us over and over and over and over again so I don't know how to deal that with that like most to put away just just like it could explode they are disappearing my belly button or like so I personally went to my house you know like well that's joy right how do you process to go to fish I don't know it's a good start I missed you for four days talk to you about it there yes yeah I I don't know N. N. you know with some distance between the conversation and now I still don't know I feel like I just need to keep working like that like just keep going not like you can't celebrate are you you can't be happy for your it's not like that I'm not talking about that I'm just like just keep going man yes plotting the course he did nothing something doing your thing bro things become successful and known because of consistency I remember that that if you do something great one time that's cool but if you have a track record of being great at what you do that's a whole different thing than doing something what once great there is a book by I think it's Napoleon hill area is it thinking grow rich maybe one of those books and he's talking about that I'm part of the whole thing is just continuing to show up doing what you do over and over again don't stop it's like being a parent you don't stop being a parent yeah but their shitty failure parents well I'm not talking about them okay even if okay no matter what if you have a child you're always a parent whether you're in that role or not yeah yeah don't ever stop being that like it you go to your grave and your children go to their grave you have that America needed good are not exactly the look so that's you know yeah it's so I that has stuck in my head ever since I read it like just fucking keep doing it keep doing your thing whatever your thing is you have to keep going and doing it and of course stop in celebrating your wins and be happy for the shit that will I do with you and to you if you don't do that it's sad that's all it's like those people that are amazing multi millionaires or and then they just they don't Preciado it they don't like eat the dinner they don't stay at the party they don't you know like where the jacket lake I felt like that's what skull and roses was for us this year was the lake that celebration you have Larry much celery this is this is your community this is the effect that you guys have had in it this is where you are this is the opportunities that you have all laid out in physical form in front of you here you go and that and that was eight ten and that was our welcome back last spring yeah like this is what lies ahead and then and if we ever second guess what we were doing during those two years when most of the life was dormant with those of connections we made with exactly where talk that's exactly literally we're talking we we talked a lot of musicians are like everybody was like do an hour like that that that was our our album release yeah what lately like that holding our skills doing interviews doing what we did through you know the lockdown I think that that that that was like Arnold Palmer lease slicker for days going to roses album release get demand they're celebrating with family and friends and I hope to do an album no simple road double LP or some album lake only for that league specifically I B. W. B. cool and you can do the cover art next to the backyard three wheels are turning now I don't know it sorry just throwing things out no no everything works out today by the hardware we're when we're solely focused looked R. went on then we have opportunity to do other things it can take ideas to the next level look here's the thing then the I don't know if you guys listening know this probably don't because the perception is opposite but it's hard to make money podcasting it's hard to make money these days but but it's it's tough to make money podcast it's a it's a weird business and %HESITATION it's a new it you know it hasn't been around for dish it has been around for a hundred years it's a new %HESITATION it's it's only been around since like two thousand nine so I mean it's pretty fucking new N. the perception is everybody's making money like Joe Rogan %HESITATION from her that's the perception like a lot of people think that they never fear across if you're doing a successful podcast you're making money and the reality is that's not so it's it's very I think people think that with bands also yeah yes like laying down and down yes same thing as a weekly at this industry Ellen and that's that's why I said that air not because to undermine you like it's hard to make money period legal I think some people don't realize that whether you look successful or not or whether you're putting out good products or not if that's what you're doing it's still like even if a hundred people buy it great so how that's good for a month yeah right back in exactly so that's what I was meaning my point is though like to be able to support the three of us mmhm something magical has to happen N. part of it is the patriotic day bye week part we talk about it at the beginning of the show and like you guys here the same stuff week in week out when we go through that but I understand that like that is the Avenue for us to support ourselves with this creative endeavor yeah yeah that's some nine or ten thousand dollar painting breaking up you're not you're buying are are nothing like what podcasts like pod CAD that that's in its infancy it's it's a pretty much free but he's giving it away for free you don't have to pay yeah yeah it's not it's like how television ended up getting there now there's cable companies streaming services and that took a long long time to get to where you had to pay for content right yeah you know so you know when you hear us like talking about patriarchy that literally is we're putting our are out there in hopes that when you consume it you will pay for it and it doesn't have anything to do with the money at the end of the day really and I know that's confusing what I just said but think about it it doesn't really have anything to do with the dollars and cents has to do with the energy of it it's the it's the reciprocal relationship that we then then R. N. together where we're connected N. doing something as a team I think about it too like when you go to like the farmers market and you pay extra for the pound of strawberries because they're fucking artisan strawberries and they're beautiful and they picked it like four hours before they got there and that person that made a candle that selling for fifteen dollars you get when a target for five but this one person made it and it's so way and it's got this certain kind of awake and it's got beautiful art that they did lake we're our podcast is hand crafted you know its %HESITATION artisan that's what we're doing we're not like putting up a template and reading things out loud so we're like we're sharing our life and our service yeah our struggles we're like farm to table podcast it's true though it is true yeah and that's a that's why I was thinking like we're at a booth at the farmers market and yes you can listen to another free podcasting combined taste all the strawberries you want yeah but at the end of the day it does another podcast make you feel like family does another podcast league thank you guys are you know our situation if you help no simple road helping three of us at the same time as true that's that's intense like I'm want to stretch your book you can yeah man well it's I think it's cool to have conversations like this because money is one of those things that it's like you know if you ask me how much they make it's all uncomfortable looks on your business or if you have somebody borrow twenty Bucks it's like why would you need a four or giving it to them wallet holding tight you know who like money just can be a weird conversation anybody makes it when it doesn't have to be money's changing anyway like pretty soon we're talking me asking for dollars from asking for like fuckin credit corner crypto currency here yeah like we'll take that too yeah and said whatever you know we're not picky but if you know what I mean like it's just one and then that's what okay I think everybody out there I think most of our listeners would agree like we we had a good friend over yesterday and that's something you're struggling with is it I hate I hate money well we we all do but it's necessary it's like saying I hate to use that we live in that requires that we pay for thing that's so weird the lights on and things I want to do it this way just be like okay our power bills like two hundred Bucks how much you want third offered power bill C. we can hear this in the very beginning I've always said the serials like let's put on like okay how much of our living expenses say they're like you know seven grand a month five or whatever and then we put like instead of like going up to five grand however much people are like donating we take away from it and so you could be like you know I mean like that there's a five thousand dollar you're able to take a chunk out of gym that way yeah exactly and so at the end of the month you like oh shit there's do you have a fuckin help those either dead or not yeah and you could be there like on the telephone shipped away at that building that's what I'm talking about apple that's exactly my thought always from the beginning member and I always said that and I was like why don't we get sponsors of shit that we can use in that we love so we don't have to buy it and we did that and we did yeah but it that it's always been my thought to kind of change how we receive our how we get money like think about it change your perspective that but the whole thing about hating money do that I don't hate my it's it's like it's a tool it's like hating a shovel or screwdriver hate screwdrivers screw drivers there %HESITATION so we we know what's meant by that date we hate what money does to people yeah and what what it what it is what it represents it should be said we hate how people deal with money yeah yeah S. yeah that's really what is what I live in the old colonial village we have where I could just like cut yourself and you're gonna die there's no antibiotics in the old colonial village go to festivals sharing water water no matching no you don't even get Wheeler horns no unicorns in nome no whatever I wanted to be shut up I don't know bill if you're not my mail you out you're cordially invited thank the reality Philly yeah he'll be %HESITATION you know you'll you'll manned the gate all the while you know all right so before we go Babe are you looking for to MSG the %HESITATION I guess I mean the little whatever it seems hoping to see the next in the plight I still have time to sell the tickets if you want I mean whatever if we need the money well when the beach right Hey you can sell tickets and get all the patriot on and then we could pay for it never mind now yes I'm I'm over the moon man actually literally right now a when we do we are waking up dead from last night this is coming on Wednesday Thursday okay just saw our first show okay this is we could actually probably listen to this in our little hotel room all cute yep you guys got to see my stand there were gonna be like a synchronicity that up in the yeah it's all just coincidence I guess you guys have called you guys again my steam on the first night I was calling all in a steam train I'm getting target time on new year's eve that's what I want to get I wanna I have I have a list I would like I would please like A. M. I would like a harp who I would also like a velvet C. that's that's doable that velvet seating is doable %HESITATION they're all too yes is that they're in days if they don't play all of those songs we just said that they have the fuck are they do they have a night that scheduled as like new year's yeah second the second night the second I thought it was the third night in okay really yeah hi I need a nap now maybe it's a third night I haven't even gone affirming it like I know it but I thought it was the second night and I was pretty sure about it you know until now you know two minutes to take us to dinner or something we need food yeah we're starting early all right Hey fading everybody all ready to go you know ought to all the noticeable road family that is in New York City we're here we're actually Mel and I are in New York right now yes we are we are going to be at Madison Square Garden tonight look for the two of us yeah there please say Hey man welcome to the east coast you're here yeah we're no longer between the moon in New York City there land we're ready we're ready for you we're excited for you we wanna hug we want to dance it out we want to high five we wanted for can splash strings together cheers ing we wanna do all the things yeah all the all the stuffs Anna and to the rest of our new Subaru family want you'll know something we really appreciate all of you then you know the thing that made skull and roses so beautiful was Jasper that was after some roses sorry thing to me it's gonna resist so beautiful was meeting all of you guys yes N. and wrestle each you are the most wonderful group of people men and when we meet somebody that says they listen to the show it's like finding a long lost relative and it feels like that and it's a trip and it's badass N. it always feels comfortable and we just just I want you to know that three of us love you guys and appreciate you and we say that but please I feel vital way today yeah are you live because you've been listening to the way the Russell popped in on me an apple says everything I I I wish to god I really do wish this this that somehow I can get that snippet of my mind out into like a picture or %HESITATION gifts or some medium because other people besides myself deserve to see how fucking hilarious and sweet and monumental that moment was with Russell I just sent him a shirt today all he deserves and he sent us a package to all yeah but yet everybody we love you guys so much thanks for hosting us in New York City and melon I think your phone is amazing thank you Mike however being on the show yep Mike thanks for being here and yes if anybody in in Woodstock knows a some cheap plan it is I am going guys so I know you know we're not going anywhere yet I was born in there I'm not meant to live there right now but whatever Jasper goes I go stay tuned in the coming weeks we will have more stuff and things for you and %HESITATION yeah we got a lot of good stuff come and everybody has to and the pager on website social media and blah blah terra reading their reading stuff send our good engine yep love yourself yeah we'll see you next time thanks for listening thank you
